Between January 6th 2018 and January 14th 2018, Network Rail engineers will renew 19 units of 'switches and crossings' which are part of the complicated track layout at Newcastle. As such, Northern services usually running from Newcastle to Carlisle are instead starting from/terminating at Metrocentre, with rail replacement bus services in operation between Newcastle and Metrocentre, which Arriva North East will be operating. To cover this Rail Replacement work; this vehicle has transferred from Redcar Depot to Jesmond, on temporary loan.

Ahead of the "Frequenta" brand being launched on service 63 at Redcar, this vehicle has been repainted into Arriva's corporate livery, minus the cowhorn. It has also been fitted with a 'Next Stop' audio-visual announcement system, as part of the "Frequenta" upgrade.
