As part of Nexus' £350m Metro 'all change' modernisation programme, there are no trains running between Tynemouth and Shiremoor in either direction from 19th March until 2nd April, to allow for track replacement work. 8.7 kilometres of 50-year-old-tracks and track beds between Tynemouth and Shiremoor are being replaced so that the new track will last 50 years more. This vehicle has transferred from Ashington Depot to Jesmond, for use on the Metro Replacement bus service.

Following the loss of the 159 service to Abellio in November 2015; this vehicle, which was previously in the fleet of Arriva London as fleet number VLA151, has been released for cascade and has been acquired by Arriva North East. It is currently undergoing preparation for service within the Arriva North East fleet, and is being repainted and refurbished to "MAX" specification.
