One to keep an eye on.
The BBC Red Button have a 'Euro's Archive'.
Tonight's was Euro 96. Guessing there are going to be other similar broadcasts on.

Never went to Chambers...

In Sunderland, I always went to Privelige, Pzazz(till I got banned for life [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]), Ku Club or Annabels if I was going to a Nightclub, I preferred Flares most of the time...

In Durham I liked Klute and Club Elysium Big Grin

Gosforth High St in 1992, which features a Newcastle Busways Atlantean.

Sorry Fozz. Missed this one.
Was never a fan of Pzazz, although I still popped in now and again.

I preferred Chambers as the dj's they used to get in, were decent - especially with me being in to my dance/trance music at the time.
It wasn't until years later I went to Ku.

Wasn't there a huge place at the bowling Alley on Newcastle Road at some point? I seem to remember coaches being laid on from Sunderland City Centre.

Couldn't stand Flares.
Chain pub + theme pub = nightmare. Guaranteed to end up somewhere like that if we go on a stag do or something. Those places seem to be everywhere!

Still don't like anywhere like that. Sure there are one or two 80's themed bars kicking around too.

Yes. It was originally the Mecca complex, with the nightclub including the 'Mayfair Suite'. The likes of Rod Stewart, Pink Floyd and The Who, had all featured over the years.

In the later years, it was known as 'The Palace', and was part of the Absolute Leisure chain. The company was ran by the same guy who was responsible for the Tuxedo Princess in Newcastle, and the Lounge in Newcastle. Towards 2003, the club was barely being used, and it ended up turning into solely a rave venue until around 2005/06. Though I believe the promoters were also running under 18s nights in there.

After that, it pretty much sat dormant, until it was handed over to Tesco.

Appreciate we are half-way through the week - but Amber have a film festival on that lasts until Friday.
I imagine there will be some interesting stuff for those into this sort of thing.

The BBC are into their computer based, football nostalgia at the moment.
5Live are running a show on it tonight.

Two of my favourites get a mention.

Sensible Soccer and Sensible World of Soccer?

I put them into the same pot to be honest.
Champ Manager was the other favourite.

The old Champ Manager now known as Football Manager is one of the greatest games ever...A big part of my teenage years [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

Aye, it was a great game.

Another key part of my teenage years, was the return of Keegan to Newcastle.
On this day in 1992, he was in charge of Newcastle for the first time.
https://youtu.be/PZtfKRPCr50

I had heard about his managerial appointment at dinnertime one day. We had no idea whether it was true or not like - with there being no internet and the Chronicle not being published until the evening back then!

On the day of the game, I managed to get into Newcastle where the crowds were huge - both on the streets and in Farnons and Binns (where I had been dragged for some reason by the folks - a suit for a wedding maybe?)

Is it nostalgia when nobody on the forum is old enough to remember it?

I was having this discussion about the housing estate formerly known as 'The Bronx', now practically re-built and named 'North View', in Blaydon.

While my friend and I can remember the estate and knew about the people and its problems, my friend's four year-old son is not going to have the same memories as we have. He may pick up some tales here and there from the likes of us, but to him, the estate has always been what it is now. Therefore, I'd argue you cannot have nostalgia by proxy as it something you have to feel and experience.

I'm not nostalgic for steam engines or route-masters as they were before my time. However, the affection I have for DMU's, HST's or Atlanteans or Olympians will not be shared by some of the younger members of the forum for the exact same reasons.

The death of the nightclub?
I was just chatting the other day about how much money clubs used to spend to get 'star turns' to appear at their club - wherever it was.
Phats and Small appeared in Birtley one night at the height of their fame.
As did the Vengaboys.

They're still enjoying their nostalgia over football based computer games.
