Wonder if its to with the Keel Square extension... it was said before work on Keel Square that it would close later to be demolished to make way for something else. RE: Sunderland Area Developments - St Mary's Way, Vaux, New Wear Bridge etc - cbma06 - 19 Nov 2015 (15 Nov 2015, 11:11 am)Michael New Wear Crossing - main works - starting January 2016 Looks like the proposed new road layout development boundry goes upto along the side of Deptford bus depot. http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/PlanDM/StreamDocPage/obj.pdf?DocNo=959139&PDF=true&content=obj.pdf RE: Sunderland Area Developments - St Mary's Way, Vaux, New Wear Bridge etc - Michael - 19 Nov 2015 (19 Nov 2015, 8:05 pm)cbma06 Looks like the proposed new road layout development boundry goes upto along the side of Deptford bus depot. Think its the wrong road, that looks like the road towards the current bridge at Deptford. Is not for the plans for the area which will be developed because of the new bridge so people build on it etc, i'm sure i read they wanted to develop it. RE: Sunderland Area Developments - St Mary's Way, Vaux, New Wear Bridge etc - cbma06 - 19 Nov 2015 (19 Nov 2015, 8:16 pm)Michael Think its the wrong road, that looks like the road towards the current bridge at Deptford. everything within the red box line will be redeveloped, from hylton road roundabout (hylton road roundabout will be gone and replaced by a 4 way traffic system) will be 2 lanes in each direction to b&q roundabout and then still 2 lanes in each direction on the proposed redevelopment site to the new bridge with the new road just bypass the bus depot and go along and under the QA bridge to the new bridge. http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/PlanDM/StreamDocPage/obj.pdf?DocNo=959810&PDF=true&content=obj.pdf page 2 RE: Sunderland Area Developments - St Mary's Way, Vaux, New Wear Bridge etc - Michael - 20 Nov 2015 (19 Nov 2015, 8:37 pm)cbma06 everything within the red box line will be redeveloped, from hylton road roundabout (hylton road roundabout will be gone and replaced by a 4 way traffic system) will be 2 lanes in each direction to b&q roundabout and then still 2 lanes in each direction on the proposed redevelopment site to the new bridge with the new road just bypass the bus depot and go along and under the QA bridge to the new bridge. Sorry a re-post - my last reply made no sense. Anyway: Thanks cbma - i was confused about the area - its good to see they're deciding to change the area around the Queen Alexandrea bridge - although its going to be a nightmare when it starts!, this new road is a good idea, least it'll take the strain off the other roads leading to the new bridge...or will this be the only access to the bridge (sure i read there will be road next to Pallion retail Park leading on to the bridge?) Hopefully once its completed - the area will open new developments, in all honestly i think the whole area needs it, get rid of everything on the river - which isn't used. In all honestly this will be a nightmare, the work starts in 2017 - the year where the bridge is nearly complete BUT not quite (with the surrounding roads being closed either temporarily or permanently) - as its expected to be finished in 2018. I would hope that in 2017 - the work will be around Deptford will done... demolishing buildings, if needed etc and so on, then once bridge is completed and opened then work would start at the Queen Alexandrea bridge - replacing the roundabout etc... I think the work will go ahead for these changes to the area, i just hope the council don't keep delaying it! (remember this is only the planning stages!) I don't see a page 2 on the link. ----------------- Anyone wondering here is the timeline for the new bridge work (from this year) May 2015 - Contract awarded and design is underway July 2015 - Construction work started October 2015 - Construction work starts in the river Winter 2015 - 12-month major improvement works start on A1231 Wessington Way Summer 2016 - Major improvement works start on B1405 European Way in Pallion Winter 2016 - A-frame pylon sets sail from Belgium and is lifted into place Summer 2017 - Bridge deck work is complete Spring 2018- New bridge scheduled to open ------------------------------ Work for Sunderland Strategic Transport Corridor Phase 3 (The Sunderland Strategic Transport Corridor is a dual carriageway link between the A19 and the Port of Sunderland). RE: Sunderland Area Developments - St Mary's Way, Vaux, New Wear Bridge etc - Michael - 03 Dec 2015 A update on the VAUX site: The team are in the process of pulling together a planning application for the Vaux site, which is due to be submitted in the coming weeks. The aim of these changes is to improve traffic flow in the area and onto the Wearmouth Bridge. It is intended to reduce the length of time taken for journeys into and out of Sunderland city centre and encourage economic development. A detailed analysis of traffic in the area has been carried out to ensure that the proposed changes will have a positive impact. Subject to consultation, work could begin in 2017 and be completed before the Tall Ships event in 2018. The council has already identified a budget of £4m for the project. http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=11317 --------- I hope this goes ahead, its about time they changed that road. |
