RE: Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - September 2015 - Dan - 06 Sep 2015

(06 Sep 2015, 7:19 pm)northern156 Was on a Red Arrows X1 yesterday from Newcastle to Washington. Before Wrekenton there was a guy came up to the driver wanting off; only to be advised that the next stop was the buslink and it was an express service.

Which begs the question. Why don't these destinations have 'Limited Stop' or 'Express' (or something of that nature) beneath Easington Lane/Newcastle?

Or even "Easington Lane" "Limited stop to Washington" (latter part scrolling bottom line).

All services which are registered as limited stop are in the process of gaining "express via" on the scrolling part of the destination display. I may have forgotten to do it for the X1, as this already shows "Eldon Square via", but it'll gain it eventually. Think the same will apply for the X9/X10 too, but I may have thought about that one a bit more as being an express!

The new destinations for services X70/X71 definitely show "Newcastle" on the top line and "Eldon Square express via X - Y - Z" on the bottom line. You'll see this from October 25th.

I suppose that could work. Just put a paper banner below the desty, save time and money (and ultimately some poor soul typing up the destinations!)

Sounds good, makes sense!
Would be good to have an express X1 though. Newcastle - Washington non stop Wink could be the XX1?

I think ''Newcastle fast'' looks quite good, like what the X85 has.

Yeah, that display looks quite good - obviously that was introduced to make more customers aware of the express nature of the route compared to competing services!

There's no chance you'd be able to fit in that special "fast" onto the Easington Lane display though (see below), so in the interests of standardisation, it probably won't get used on the X1.

Does someone go and delete them after he finishes them? There's another day's work pal? Smile

Yeah I meant for the X70/X71, as they are faster compared to the Red Kite from Consett and Diamond services from Dipton and Sunniside.

(06 Sep 2015, 7:11 pm)Dan Hope Robert approves of the new style of Metro Replacement destinations:

[Image: 20573545854_766c25c079.jpg]3969 PJ02PYV Regent Centre 901 by mdw9121, on Flickr

No more scrolling 'METRO Replacement' on the top line, but a smaller route number has to be used instead to compensate for the lack of scrolling. Of course, should anything with a colour route number display be allocated, it'll be white. Much easier from a driver's perspective now too, as every station is programmed and they're listed in order (ie South Hylton first, then Pallion, then Millfield, all the way to Airport). Only Deptford, Peterlee, Gateshead and Hexham have these destinations so far, but it'll be rolled out to the remaining depots in the coming weeks.

Will the same be done for flipdots?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the company were trying to phase out flipdot displays in favour of LEDs?

(06 Sep 2015, 7:58 pm)DanPicken Will the same be done for flipdots?

Yes - they show "METRO" on the top line if my memory serves, as "Metro Replacement" with a route number doesn't fit if you want it in a large font.

Will try and get a photo of the destination next time I'm on a bus with flipdot displays (if I remember), if you'd like me to.

(06 Sep 2015, 8:00 pm)R852 PRG Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the company were trying to phase out flipdot displays in favour of LEDs?

We are, and we have around 30 front LED destinations in circulation following the withdrawal of a large number of vehicles over the past few months. Without consulting my list, I think we have enough now to get rid of all front flipdot displays on all vehicles excluding Olympians and Lolynes.

We have fewer side and rear displays going spare (as demonstrated by the fact we had to give the OmniDekkas rear displays for their sides), but it's the front most people notice!

That looks like Regent Centre to me - on the 900, showing the generic destination...

Every station is programmed for the 900 and 901 so there's no real use for a generic destination. I will end up removing the generic ones at this rate, as it seems some drivers aren't going to bother scrolling through the stations to get to the right one...

Fleet News from Go North East's website:

3874 Percy Main to Stanley
7080 Driver Training to Hexham

It wasn't noted in Go North East's Fleet News, but Chester-le-Street's recently withdrawn Dennis Trident/East Lancs Lolyne 3879 (W189 SCU) - which never came out of service in reality - has been reinstated at Stanley Depot whilst on temporary loan.

Surely its up to depot management to pass on which destination should be displayed. As a driver if you operate, say the 900 then you enter that number, and unless you are told there's additional destinations as opposed to just metro replacement then thats what will stay on the front.
