RE: Metrocentre Bus and Coach Show 2017 - Jimmi - 30 Dec 2016

(30 Dec 2016, 11:55 am)NK53 TKT Does anyone know when this is, is it 30th April, 1st May or 7th May?
April 30th I think (not 100% confirmed to my knowledge).

The event will not be at the MetroCentre anymore though. Location for the rally hasn't publicly being announced, so it's all up in the air at the moment really.

Annoying, I plan to go to London that weekend returning on BA1336 in the evening

Just bought Buses Magazine today.

The 2017/18 Rally guide has this at Spillers Wharf, Newcastle Quayside with free parking on site and a free classic bus service from Newcastle centre and Gateshead.

30th April. I've had a look on the north east bus preservation trust website but there are no details listed.

Hope they provide clear details of how to get there. Spillers wharf is a lot less accessible than the metro centre.

Indeed, I tried to look where Spillers Wharf is and I ain't particularly sure where exactly it is, the closest I've come to finding out is that it's somewhere on the Quayside which isn't exactly helpful to me.

The q3 is the best bus to get. If you alight near the free trade pub and then walk eastward along the quayside.

If they are doing a free bus from Gateshead and the city centre then they need to publish a timetable and list of departure points. Also a good idea to have volunteers at the various stops to help people with directions and queries.

I think it's somewhere around ouseburn, on the q3 route.

Edit: though this places it just off the millennium bridge

I suppose somewhere in between would be a safe bet!

RE: Metrocentre Bus and Coach Show 2017 - Malarkey - 16 Mar 2017

Looking at the area of Spillers Wharf, I would say it will be on the Car Park of the "The Cycle Hub", which is a reasonably sized site.

I was just about to post that it is behind the Cycle Hub - where the Spiller's building was.

Except that nobody anywhere has mentioned that is says provision underneath the event in the Rally Guide - meaning it is not confirmed yet.

Yep, provisionally published in Buses Magazine, a premature announcement on their part. The Trust are still in negotiations with parties involved so not set in stone for public confirmation.
Slap on wrists for Buses Mag.

RE: Metrocentre Bus and Coach Show 2017 - Adrian - 21 Mar 2017

I appreciate that negotiations take time, but you wonder if they're leaving it far too late? If it isn't announced in the next few days, then it'll be little over a month until it's *provisionally* scheduled. It doesn't leave an awful lot of time to get preservationists and enthusiasts rounded up, in order to make the event a big success.

I can't help but think it'd be a better idea for them to just focus the time and attention into a plan for a 2018 event there and beyond. It gives them plenty of time to get organised, and get interest from entries further afield. Something we've had little of in recent times.

RE: Metrocentre Bus and Coach Show 2017 - Charles41 - 21 Mar 2017

I feel the spillers wharf site is a poor choice. It's off the beaten track and has very few facilities. There are no public toilets nearby and little in the way of shops or cafes. Plus part of the site is fenced off and overgrown. I walked past it on Sunday and was not impressed.

RE: Metrocentre Bus and Coach Show 2017 - Ambassador - 21 Mar 2017

I disagree that it's a poor location.

Both the BBC and for 13 years the Evolution Festival used the site with numbers that bus rally organisers could only dream of. Toilets aren't an issue, you hire them, as with catering. It's near a thriving pub and popular location like Ouseburn and a short and very pleasant stroll from Newcastle Quayside.

Plenty of parking around too. Credit to them for thinking about this one

I have pretty much zero knowledge of the potential location but I think the other rallies they hold such as Howlands, they don't have any any toilet facilities but there is normally a burger van of some description. There is also the shuttles from Gateshead and Newcastle? to get to those facilities.

Hadn't twigged that it was where the Evolution festival was held.

Quite a big site from my experience of Evo, and I agree with your comments.

Like toilets, they would hire in catering facilities like at many of the Trust's events. The Quayside amenities really aren't that far away for the able bodied, and there would be an internal shuttle to Gateshead interchange.
