57/57A registration is merged together.
306/308 registration is merged together so it's the 306 that's changing.

I was just thinking that regarding the 306 registration being tagged onto the 308.

From Wednesday 13 October, North Tyneside Council will permanently close Howard Street and Northumberland Square. As a result, there will be some minor changes to the routes and times of some of our services.

Services 53 and 57A

Towards Cramlington, both service 53 and 57A will operate from Bedford Street via Saville Street, Stephenson Street, Albion Road, Church Way, resuming the normal route from there, no longer serving stops on Howard Street and Northumberland Square.

They will additionally serve a new stop to be located on Stephenson Street and serve the bus stop opposite Christ Church on Albion Road, these replace the current stop on Howard Street.

Service 306

Towards Newcastle, this service will remain on Albion Road before turning onto Preston Road. The service will additionally serve a stop on Albion Road opposite Christ Church to replace the one on Northumberland Square.

Towards Tynemouth and Whitley Bay, the service will operate via Albion Road rather than Northumberland Square, again will serve the stop on Albion Road outside of Christ Church.

Looks like the 35/35A was causing people problems

From Sunday 31 October, we have realised that the changes we made to this service in July when we introduced the 35A have caused some confusion to passengers in the Woodhorn and Newbiggin areas. As a result, we will revert to the original route of only a 35 which will serve Newbiggin in both directions.

We are also pleased to announce that from Monday 1st November, this service will be reinstated to its normal frequency of up to every 20 minutes during Monday to Friday daytimes. Regrettably, the current Saturday frequency will remain in place whilst we continue to manage our driver availability challenges. As a result a revised timetable will be introduced Monday to Saturdays.

They will be no change to current late evenings or Sunday services.

Also changes to the X18

From Sunday 31 October, we will revert to our winter timetable n the section of route between Alnwick and Berwick. From this time, we have made amends to a number of journeys at the request of Northumberland County Council. See details below.

Monday to Friday

•    The 1410 from Berwick towards Alnwick and Newcastle will operate 5 minutes earlier between Berwick and Alnwick, with a new departure time from Berwick Rail Station at 1405.
•    The 1615 from Alnwick towards Berwick will operate 5 minutes earlier between Craster and Berwick.
•    The 1823 from Alnwick towards Newcastle will operate 5 minutes later between Alnwick and Morpeth, with a new departure time of 1828 from Alnwick.
Saturdays
•    The 1410 from Berwick towards Alnwick and Newcastle will operate 5 minutes earlier between Berwick and Alnwick, with a new departure time from Berwick Rail Station at 1405.

The anti-clockwise loop (the 35A) was apparently introduced due to a request from NCC while the service was half hourly. Good to see the increase to every 20 minutes though, the service needs it.

East Durham College service ED1 will operate via Framwellgate Peth, New Elvet and Hallgarth Street.

They are though, on the most part!

I'd expected someone to suggest something like that, so I had looked at the vehicle history on bustimes.org prior to posting.

That's some pretty major service reductions. 6 down now fro 5 to 3 an hour. 64 halved now to 3 an hour. I can walk my 64 journeys in half an hour at most.

Judging by the comments on the Arriva page, suggests the reality is different.
At the end of the day, if this means people can reliably catch a 20 minute 64 rather than guess if the current 15 minute one is going to turn up - that is a short term benefit.

I needed to check the times for the 22 for a friend, and it looks like from the 2nd January to the 15th March... the 22 is every 20 minutes - Monday to Saturday (remaining the same on Sundays)

No details on the Arriva website for this but there are some minor school-time changes already announced:

Northumberland Service 35
-07:52 from Woodhorn will now depart 07:42 running 10 minutes earlier to Ashington on school days, while on school holidays it will depart 07:47 running 5 minutes earlier instead - same timetable as now from Ashington.
-08:12 from Woodhorn will now depart 08:07 and operate 5 minutes earlier throughout
-15:17 and 15:37 from Woodhorn will now depart 15:22 and 15:42 running 5 minutes later throughout

Redcar Service 62
-Buses will leave Mersey Road slightly earlier towards Redcar on Monday-Saturday

Redcar Service 63
-14:38 from Redcar will run school holidays only
-14:58 from Redcar will now run on schooldays

Redcar Service X3
-08:14 from Lingdale will run 5 minutes earlier throughout
-08:17 from North Skelton will run 5 minutes earlier through to Saltburn on schooldays
-13:50 from Middlesbrough will run 5 minutes later from Saltburn and terminate at Skelton Asda on schooldays
-15:15 from Brotton will begin from Skelton Asda on schooldays
-New 14:54 schoolday service from Huntcliffe school to Lingdale replacing 15:19 Huntcliffe school to North Skelton

Interestingly looking at the new timetables for these, a number of other services are now showing as running every 20 minutes/extra journeys including service 62 - obviously no mention of a frequency increase on Arriva's site for the 62 so I think it might just be Arriva's shocking website.

For some reason the Bank Holiday times have been superimposed on the Monday to Friday times (presumably because Sunday service operates on Monday 3rd January) - whilst it shows 3 journeys per hour they are not every 20 minutes but normal weekday and Sunday times  put together.

Service 28/28A from Middlesbrough to Lingdale is having a revised route and timetable from 30th January according to the North Yorkshire County Council website. Quick check of VOSA and can't see any other changes from the 30th on there atm.

Closure of Guisborough Road at Swans Corner means no buses to Nunthorpe Station.

Are there any plans for the 553 to change operators? Makes sense at the Regent Centre end to be Arriva, but for Battle Hill/Wallsend GNE would be the best. GCT or Phoenix would probably get it next if Arriva don't keep it. When is the contract up for renewal for the 47 and 553?

According to VOSA they're not supported by subsidy. I don't know if the services are contracted by the NHS or Arriva receive some support for them, if that's the case they won't be changing hands. The fact Arriva have operated the 553 since 2014 doesn't suggest it's going to change any time soon. But they're not a Nexus contract, otherwise someone else other than Arriva would probably be operating them by now.

There are some Nexus supported journeys on the 553 but these are now operated by GCT (and are earmarked for withdrawal according to recent consultation).

553 was (possibly still is) 2 separate contracts.

Monday to Friday every 30 minutes (Regent Centre - Freeman Hospital) contracted by NHS

Monday to Saturday every 60 minutes (Freeman Hospital - Battle Hill) contracted by Nexus

Arriva worked with both contractors to Run the service across Freeman Hospital.

I believe Arriva decided to run the Battle Hill - Freeman Hospital section commercially last year, so not to split service up, as i'm led to believe that they had lost Nexus contract to GCT.

Wasnt the 553 merged with the 3?

I still can't see any mention on the Go North East website of this going back to normal, I would have expected GNE to tell its passengers rather than Nexus
