Probably been asked before, and sorry to change the subject, but why were the optare excels withdrawn from the fleet so early? Because they weren't really that old were they, same age as some renowns if I'm right

The Optare Excels were slightly more unreliable than the Darts and cost more to repair. It was shame that due to their bigger wheels, the ride quality was a lot better than a Dart and they were nice to look at.

Who needs heroes anyway? Villians have more fun.

When I've used the few ex-GNE ones in Blackpool they've been solid.

Will the Merc demo be fitted with a transmitter for the centre link rising bollard?

(31 Jul 2014, 11:31 pm)GMitchelhill I think it is 3964 that has returned from Scotland. As a Red Volvo B7TL / Wright Eclipse Gemini 1 went past my shop in Throckley on Wednesday afternoon.
Remember that 3941/63 are also in the same livery now...

Like I said yesterday, 3963 was the example that returned earlier this week and 3941 returned yesterday. 3964 is still at Glasgow, and should remain up there for the remaining duration of the Games.

A number of drivers/buses were not required for the whole fortnight, which is why a few have returned early.

The rising bollard has been down all the time lately as far as I know (Liam should be able to confirm). Been like that for months now.

It seems strange they are coming back for non-maintenance issues, when games organisers were reported stating, there were not enough vehicles and additional ones were being sourced.

Indeed compensation is being issued to those who purchased tickets for events and were unable to see those events due to the queues and lack of transport from P&R sites.

I thought it was odd too, for the same reason.

I think a lot less shuttles operate now compared to what they did at the start of the Games though, hence why the contract would have said the drivers of 3941 and 3963 can return before the end of the Games. I'd imagine if they did require anything extra, First would use their own resources above any of GNE's (or any other operator which has been drafted in to provide buses).

I notice the vehicle hasn't yet gained a fleet number - hope the engineer was right when he told me it was 9120! Tongue

Really quite surprised they got it out so soon. I'm guessing that they must have been a Merc down this morning so pushed to get it out.

Fleet number XYZX then for now Tongue. One of the articulated Mercs was parked up in the lay-by section of Gateshead Interchange earlier.

I'll get a single on it if it's still not gone one tomorrow. Should at least have it on the ticket. Tongue

Was a strange one, as I can usually at least see the SSID being broadcast. Didn't have my other phone, but my mate checked his and couldn't see it either. We could both see various other SSIDs though.
