Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
(24 Jul 2022, 8:45 pm)Storx The 81 doesn't go to Newcastle, it terminates at Gateshead (just noticed tbf). You could have 8 & 25 operating hourly to Sunderland
imo the 8/25/81/82/83/TB14/TB23/TB24 need to be consolidated into a few routes. It's a right mess imo. One service during the day, another at night by different operators absolutely useless as it is.
As mentioned before the best routing would be imo - slightly changed added with the 23.
23: CLS to North Lodge (702), to Barley Mow to Kibblesworth (TB14) (Hourly with Breadvans/Minibus, No Evening Service / Sundays)
25: Newcastle to Barmston via 81 route (Hour Hourly with Minibuses/Midibus, Hourly in Evenings)
8: Stanley to Washington (Half Hourly)
EXT: Washington to Sunderland (8 Route) either left on the end of the 8 or added to the end of the 25 - that'll need discussion between the bus operators though what's best.
701: Hourly replacing 702 runs interworking with 700/703 as now.
81/82/83/TB14/TB23/TB24/702 withdrawn.

I think it would be a decent route
based off an old coach trip that ran between Consett and South Shields
X3: Consett - Leadgate - Annfield Plain - Stanley - Chester-le-Street - A1 - Tyne Dock - Westoe - South Shields
New Service 50A: South Shields - Chichester - S.T Hospital - Tyne Dock - Jarrow - Hebburn - Monkton Lane - Washington Galleries - Lambton - Ayton - Barley Mow - Chester-Le-Street - Plawsworth - Newton Hall - Framwellgate Moor - Durham.
Would Give Monkton Lane & Hebburn fast buses to the hospital.
Would allow for Newton Hall passengers to connect to 21/X21 at CLS.
Would provide extra capacity between Washington, CLS & Durham.
Picking up on my post in the disruptions/driver shortages thread;
Would it be worth the 65 doing this route around Seaham in both directions?
Rather than the current anti-clockwise loop
Unless you can get on at any point on the loop prior to Byron Place and go through to Durham, in which case why isn't that publicised?

Yeah, it's just the driving directions. Obviously doesn't work if your route goes through a bus gate, or a road that's 2 ways for buses but 1-way for cars. On PC, just drag the route it gives to add a via point.
Alternatively, for most existing local routes it now highlights the exact route buses take - I think the stops have to be no more than a certain distance apart (so it often doesn't work for express buses where it just draws a straight line)
Washington Night shift services.
Based on conversations in the bus changes thread, I've had the following idea.
The routes can be added to/evolved. Not precious.
N1 - Jarrow, Nissan, Cherry Blossom Way, Waterview Park (for Asda), Teal Farm, Pattison Road/Staithes Road (for Asda and Faurecia), Biddick, Galleries, Oxclose, Crowther (for 2 industrial units), BAE/Rolls Royce, Portobello, Birtley Lane, Harras Bank, Durham Road, Chester - could be extended to the likes of Pelton for the guy who also works at Crowther.
N2 - Rickleton, BAE/Rolls Royce, Crowther (for 2 industrial units), Oxclose, Galleries, Biddick, Pattison Road/Staithes Road (for Asda and Faurecia), Teal Farm, Barmston, Nissan, Cherry Blossom Way, Waterview Park (for Asda), Castletown.
Washington service suggestions instead of bogging the other thread:

I thought I'd posted these. Maybe it wasn't in this thread. Or maybe I just didn't post it at all!
Anyway. To take in to account changing travel patterns, the need to get cars off the road and the fact that key employment sites don't have a decent level of public transport, a revision to key services at key times of the day.
Services will run with a suffix following on from their number.
X - Peak time variation of a route.
D - day time variation of a route.
N - evening variation of a route.
Example 1:
27X - South Shields to Newcastle via Tyne Dock, Jarrow, Hebburn, Monkton Business Park, Follingsby, Heworth, Felling Bypass, Gateshead, Newcastle.
27D - current route.
Example 2:
61X - Seaham, A19, Doxford Park, Sunderland.
61D - current route.
61N - Seaham, A19, Nissan, Follingsby, Heworth.
Example 3:
50X - Durham, Abbey Road/Arnison Centre, Chester, A1, Galleries, Waterview Park, Boldon Business Park, Boldon, Tyne Dock, South Shields
50D - current route.
50N - Chester le Street, Portobello, Rolls Royce/BAE, Crowther, Galleries, Biddick, Waterview Park (for Asda) , Nissan, Castletown.
The D services will run during the peaks, but at a lower frequency. This will allow driver and vehicle resource to be used effectively to meet the demands passengers actually have during peaks and on an evening/night.
These are just base ideas. I'm sure there are many more examples or suggestions of an operator looking to adapt a route to suit the flows or patterns across the course of a day and in to the night.

Perhaps GNE should look at reintroducing the old minilink route in Washington that had the W4 going through Donwell estate. It would only add a few minutes to the 85 route and it may help bring back a few customers. The recently axed 23, funded by Nexus, went through the estate and it was popular. Or at least was popular until Gateshead Central Taxis started to run an unreliable service and poeple gave up using it.
The old W4 used to pick up quite a few passengers in the estate. GNE in its wisdom scrapped this part of the route when bus services were "consolidated" in the 00s. Donwell also has a larger than average number of older residents so it will also be helpful to people who have mobility issues. It doesn't have to be every 85 that would serve the estate. Perhaps one per hour could run as the 85A and go through the estate.
