Night services.....altho aren't they both operated by streetlites?

I think the black would correspond with this idea.

I also think that it is a good indication that the B5s are not leaving the 21 anytime soon.

However i cant see the night services being specially branded as they only about 6 services per week on each route

N21 uses B5's.

Judging by the VOSA registration, from September 3rd the N21 will be extended to Durham, South Road College's whilst the N20 is registered as withdrawn from the same date.

There's a photo of the B9 on Facebook and the base coat is in the same style as the Angel, mostly black with either orange or red (difficult to tell) going along the bottom.

It is Angel style orange. Which perhaps hints at a 56 brand revision in Angel/Castle Express style, with Angels also very much needing a repaint. The 56s have faded quite badly when you see them next to the Citylink Versa of the same age.

The Fab56 and Citylink58 are 2 different shades of orange.

Would the best time to advertise night buses not be during the day though, and along their daytime routes?

Might tempt a few more to give it a try, instead of forking out for a taxi. Night bus should still work out cheaper for most journeys.

Depends how many of you there are. For one definitely but 2 or more to somewhere like Low Fell or Birtley  and it's the same as daytime fares. Taxis all the way.

Night fares are even weirder than day fares tbh, birtley the same as Chester le Street for one

I'd say even for 4 its still cheaper by bus. Unless you're hugely disciplined and have one drop off, which tends not to happen in my experience?

Looks smart.

I really think that should be the new 56 brand base, maybe change the orange to red, so:

Black - Newcastle
Red - Sunderland

I edited my post before you quoted but a black cab to Low Fell is generally a tenner to the door. Birtley about £13. Local cabs are cheaper by £2-£5.

Personally I'd love to see the Q services tried as a night shuttle though I understand the reluctance

Night buses in other parts of the country work well, but less so up here in the North East.

Arriva and Stagecoach have not bothered to dip into this market yet, while Go North East has gradually withdrawn its services over the past few years (N58 most recently a few years ago, N97 before that)...

Before any new night bus services are added to the network, I think the two current ones need to 'prove' themselves first, and a bit of growth on both services is required.

Having two specially liveried buses, which form part of the PVR of the daytime equivalent of both services, will promote the night bus services and raise awareness of the 24-hour operation on weekends. I would imagine it is part of a wider marketing campaign and commercial strategy for these routes - VOSA registrations have already suggested that changes are on their way to the N21.
