Representing an investment of over £1.6m, this batch of vehicles have been ordered to upgrade "Tyne Tees Xpress" services X9 and X10. These vehicles feature the latest technology, and are fitted with Volvo's new 5.1 litre D5K-240 engine, which is Euro 6 emission compliant. Service changes in May saw "Venture" services V7/V8 re-numbered M7/M8 with the introduction of a new M6 service, falling under the "Metrocentre Mini" brand, with a new allocation of former Plymouth Citybus Optare Solo M920/Optare vehicles. The PVR of the "Venture" group of services hence decreased, meaning that this vehicle became the spare vehicle for both the "Venture" group of services as well as the "Metrocentre Mini" M6/M7/M8 services. Following the end of the two-phase Major Line Closure taking place between Monday 31st July and Saturday 2nd September 2017 to allow for work at Northumberland Park station and track and bridge renewal work which forms part of the £350m Metro: all change modernisation programme, this vehicle has transferred from Riverside Depot to Percy Main. Though originally expected to be withdrawn from 3rd September 2017; this vehicle will instead be retained until after the Great North Run, to assist in the coverage of extra vehicle requirements for this event (up to an additional 90 buses) and to assist in the coverage of extra vehicle requirements at Percy Main for Cruise Ships shuttle services.
