Prior to entering service, this vehicle has received "Black Cats" branding. "Black Cats" is the new brand identity being introduced to encompass a variety of different frequent services in and around the city of Sunderland, promoting the cheap and competitively priced day and weekly tickets available for travel in the city (£3.65 for a day ticket, and £12.15 for a weekly ticket).
This vehicle, which carries a light red base livery, has arrived into the Go North East fleet. It is currently being prepared for service at Saltmeadows Road Depot. Manufactured by Wrightbus in Northern Ireland, this batch of vehicles feature the latest Euro 6 Micro-Hybrid engines with the cleanest vehicle emissions standards. Unlike previous examples in the fleet, they therefore feature a Wrightbus grille on the rear bonnet, providing additional air circulation. Following the entry into service of new Wright Streetlites on "Black Cats" services 2/2A and 39, this vehicle has transferred from Deptford Depot to Riverside. At Riverside, this vehicle will provide another spare vehicle to the same specification as those branded for "Quaylink" services Q1/Q2/Q3 and "Citylink" service 58.
A large number of double-deck vehicles are required over the summer months, due to Go North East being awarded with the contracts to operate additional services for special events and Metro Replacement. As such; this vehicle, which would have otherwise been withdrawn in line with the cascade of Optare Versas from Deptford Depot to Riverside, has instead been moved into a float/reserve capacity at Riverside Depot, and will be allocated to a Miscellaneous Works running board normally allocated a double-deck vehicle, but does not contractually require this capacity during school holidays, releasing the double-deck vehicle normally allocated for Metro Replacement work.

Following the entry into service of new Wright Streetlites on "Black Cats" services 2/2A and 39, this vehicle has transferred from Deptford Depot to Riverside. At Riverside, this vehicle will act as a temporary replacement for VDL SB120/Wright Merit 8266 (NK04 ZNE), which has been withdrawn having sustained defects uneconomical to repair. The Metrocentre Shuttle S1 service is due to be withdrawn from Sunday 23rd July and replaced by an extended X66 service on a lower frequency, when this vehicle will be cascaded to operate services 67 (Metrocentre - Wardley) and 69 (Winlaton - Wardley) at Riverside.
