January 2017 Go North East Photograph by This vehicle has received a special livery to promote Northern Writes. Northern Writes is a cultural education programme which is part of The Forge’s Defiant Voices programme. It is inspired by the pitman poet Tommy Armstrong and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Armstrong was a defiant voice, speaking out against poverty and inequality: injustices which still exist in the North East today. Northern Writes aims to use Armstrong’s poetry to inspire a new generation of defiant voices, restoring civic pride to the region.

Each bus branded for the "DFDS Seaways" 327 service will feature different taglines on the uniquely coloured two-tone base livery. This example features the tagline "Your way to Amsterdam" on the nearside, and "Amsterdam Awaits" on the offside.

The new livery design is a a lot more eye-catching and features a two-tone base livery, with the traditional key colour of red towards the front of the bus, and non-metallic dark blue towards the back. It is thought that further vinyls will be added at a later date, in order to reflect the quality and customer values of Go North East.
