The proposals include allowing two-way traffic on North Bridge Street and Dame Dorothy Street as well as some alterations to the Wheatsheaf Junction and streets nearby.
The aim of these changes is to improve traffic flow in the area and onto the Wearmouth Bridge. It is intended to reduce the length of time taken for journeys into and out of Sunderland city centre and encourage economic development.
A detailed analysis of traffic in the area has been carried out to ensure that the proposed changes will have a positive impact.
Subject to consultation, work could begin in 2017 and be completed before the Tall Ships event in 2018. The council has already identified a budget of £4m for the project.

I hope this goes ahead, its about time they changed that road.
It isn't too long since they got rid of the Wheatsheaf roundabout and installed the lights - making improvements to the junction.

Ye, its much better, don't wait to long now which is good as before it was a nightmare going all the way around however i think it could mean the bus lane only lane leading from the Wheatsheaf to the bridge? as it looks like it does on the picture provided.
However the downside is.........
Nightmare traffic - even worse on match days.
Diversions.
Edit:
Also i think because its Sunderland council they've forgot to re-word this statement:
The proposals include allowing two-way traffic on North Bridge Street and Dame Dorothy Street as well as some alterations to the Wheatsheaf Junction and streets nearby.
I must say, whatever "improvements" to Park Lane bus station are looking most attractive.

That red paint didn't last too long, did it? Sure they were only doing it the other week when I passed through...

That barrier perpendicular to the seat is fairly new, as well. Its installation has done wonders for the floor tiles. But the chipped red paint, plus chipped black paint, in total contrast to the neat, tidy, plain metal railings around the coast and country stand do nothing to improve what must be the draughtiest bus station in the region.

Hopefully, we need work to start on it soon as it can... dont want to wait another 100 years for more planning proposals to go in and then for the council to say... no thanks.
This time its a different company, working with a couple more and they seem quite good for what they want to do.

Those scruffy railings have been re-painted, BTW. They're back to all red.
The floor's still a mess, mind.

I complained about the toilets ages ago and they blamed Sunderland council, as they are contracted to clean them, no doubt they'll blame the council for the railings to.
NEXUS should be getting on to the council about the state of the bus station, as they run it!
I haven't used the bus station in a while so haven't seen the state of it in a while.
Got an email from URBED who are ovee seeing the planning etc for the Vaux site, the email confirmed that a planning applcation has gone in: (more on the link)

It's the first I'd read of this, but it should take the pressure off the Alexandra bridge, when it's done.
Going to be a nightmare, i have to use the Alexandra bridge on a morning.. traffic can get quite bad on their anyway but it'll probables get worse as the work advances on the new bridge. (Due to the road road closures)

Ground floor converted to three retail units
Entrance and lobby of hotel on ground floor
Concrete canopy on ground floor to be removed

Sunderland Railway Station Contribution and Public Realm
The high-level design of the railway station is now complete. Following discussions on the final design options as well as consideration to funding for the whole project, the detailed design will now progress with construction now due to start January 2017.
£2.9m has therefore been re-profiled into 2016/2017. The public realm works will follow the above station remodelling and is expected to occur late 2017, requiring £0.250m to be re-profiled into 2017/2018.

Made a document for the proposed upcoming changes in Sunderland so its easier for people to follow:
New Wear crossing - the next phase begins
New Wear Crossing Construction
The next stage of construction on our city's next landmark is getting underway but it means more roadworks for Sunderland drivers.
Part of Timber Beach Road linking Wessington Way to Sunderland Enterprise Park is shutting for good for the New Wear crossing bridge.
We can now see the major work going on, in the river as the first Sunderland bridge in 40 years takes shape.

Update for Seaburn
Seaburn Update
We hugely value the feedback we received at the consultation events held last year and are still actively engaged in conversations that are influencing and shaping the proposals, as well as the technical surveys such as highways.
We are continuing to develop the vision for Seaburn and to assist in this, we recently appointed two local companies to work with ourselves and the design team to develop this vision, Creo Communications and Ashmore Consulting. They are busy gathering information and speaking to local businesses and residents and we look forward to sharing this with you and hope this will help in communicating the proposals more effectively.
We will be holding a further consultation event over the next couple of months, in late February/early March, and will advise you of the dates in the next week or so.
In the meantime please contact John or Katie at Siglion, on either john.seager@siglion.co.uk or katie.sully@siglion.co.uk if you have any further queries.
