Why did Stagecoach X87/X88 move from Haymarket to Eldon Square? Did the X77, X78, X79 and X82 exist back then? I know the X47 is a new service. Busways/Stagecoach X87/X88 used to be in the Bus Concourse, then moved to Haymarket in around 1998, then moved to Eldon Square in around 2010/11 I think after Eldon Square Bus Station opened in 2007. Stagecoach no longer serves Haymarket Bus Station (as has been said on here before) and the Haymarket bus station is mostly Arriva with the only Go North East services being the Q3, 309/310/X39. Historically, Busways didn't serve Haymarket and I believe only used the Concourse, likewise Northern used Worswick Street Bus Station. Haymarket was Northumbrian Coaches.

Northumbria Motor Services not Northumbrian Coaches.

When I first remember it the 87/88 was joint United/PTE and didn't go to any bus stations.

Didn't Busways/Stagecoach use the old Eldon Square bus station for the expresses?

Possibly St Thomas St at one point.
I can vaguely remember getting off 'via Cowgate' Express in the early 90's there.

There is an old map of Eldon Square kicking around the forum somewhere. There may be some clues there.
The X87/88 were moved from Haymarket to Eldon Square for a few reasons. Obviously, it meant that it went from the same bus station as the X77/78/79. I believe congestion in Haymarket bus station was also a factor. Of course, now all the Ponteland Road expresses now serve the bus station which makes more sense.

The X47 was originally introduced with the support of a government grant. It replaced a far less frequent 47 if I remember correctly.

Yes, Northumbria Motor Services. No idea why I said Northumbrian Coaches! They were very present in Haymarket bus station, as is now the case with Arriva.

I think only the 87/88 not X87/X88 was United/PTE. I am sure the expresses were always Busways, I could be wrong though.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know the X47 launched in 2006, or the X34 served Haymarket. Thanks, I will have a look at the bygone era area of the site.

Yes, that makes sense. I didn't know there was an X77/X78/X79 as I only used the X87/X88 from Haymarket. I don't remember getting any notice of the move. I just ended up at Eldon Square instead of Haymarket in around 2010 or so. I would if anyone has an old timetable from the Haymarket days of the X87/X88. The numbering makes little sense: X34, X47, X77, X78, X79, X82, X87, X88.  Off topic slightly, it seems off GNE hasn't moved the Cobalt services to Eldon Square, they look silly in the Arriva bus station. Also, Quaylink should all be in Eldon Sqaure. X34 should join all the other expressed in Eldon Square too! Perhaps sharing the X82 stand if possible.

The service numbers hark back to the Busways, and in many cases PTE, days.  E.g.

X34 replaced much of the old South Shields number 34, extended through to Newcastle.

X47 replaced the old 47 which was introduced in the early 90s (and variously also included the 46/48/86 between Kingston Park and Newcastle).

X77/X78/X79 replaced the old Ponteland group – where we used to have (at various times) 75/75A/76/76A/76E/M76/X76/77/77A/77E/78/78E/79/79A.

The X82 is the last surviving part of the old 82/X82/83 group, where the 83 served Heddon on the Wall rather than Throckley.

The X87 & X88 have carried those numbers for decades – previously linked with the 87 &  88 which had the same destination but a slower route (in theory).
Well since thes a lot of static blinds going in the go North East's feed hears some stagecoach services that could use static blinds

Information From Steven Knight Media - Fleet News Ramblings:

✤Stagecoach North East
Dennis Trident/ALX400 17647 & MAN/ALX300s 22023, 22025, 22028, 22029, 22030, 22034, 22035, 22036, 22039, 22041, 22042, 22043 & 22044 have moved from Busways (Awaiting Disposal) at Slatyford to Transit (Awaiting Disposal) & are all parked at Stockton Depot. This formally records the transfer of these vehicles from Busways (Disposal) to Transit (Disposal), though many of the above mentioned vehicles have been parked up at Stockton for some considerable time. MAN/ALX300 22074 which was to be converted to a Driver Training vehicle for Slatyford, is now under conversion to a Driver Training vehicle at Stockton instead. MAN/Kinetic 22511 & MAN/Enviro 300 22579 have both moved from Slatyford Reserve to Delicenced at Slatyford.

Wonder why they didn't get this one working?

It's not with Stagecoach, it's with Stephensons North East.

It was new to White Star Motors and later passed to Stagecoach West Scotland when they took over White Star.
Thank for in info mate

I see a few from my workplace in Newburn Business Park, but it tends to be a cocktail of Enviro's and ALX's.

Thanks - do you have dates for when 19389/430/433 were repainted?
ADL E300 27738 is now in corporate livery - first seen last Saturday.
28027 is also now in Stagecoach corporate livery

Here hoping 28018 is left til later as it's the only one I haven't photoed in the gas blue livery.

To be fair 28027 did have parts of its branding missing so may have been prioritised over the slightly older ones. If 28029 is one of the next ones to be done that will probably confirm it as it currently has no branding down one side.

No idea how many have been done and how many are outstanding, but there was a blue one on the X24 yesterday morning.
X24 and X34 both commence Sunday Service operation from today until Christmas Eve.

So its done with then, why, there not planning on scrapping it are they?

22511 was the worst of them on arrival so wouldn't be surprised if it's ended up as an engineering spare really, rather than a priority to get it into service. Delicenced doesn't necessarily mean it won't appear in the future, the others have recently been re-taxed in October, so probably moved to delicenced on paper on the back of it becoming SORN.

19433 was just shy of mid-June, subsequently returning to the 1 rotas. 19430 was similar, recall it being early August when it came back onto the 1s. 19389 not so sure as it's predominantly a 22 rota one, which I don't see often enough to take real note.

(19 Nov 2017, 1:38 pm)V514DFT wrote [ -> ]So its done with then, why, there not planning on scrapping it are they?

Club 22 branding was only ever a temporary promotional brand with the Cobalt extension which would slowly get binned off once vehicles were sent for repaint. Majority needed repainted prior to being branded so lucky it's lasted as long as it has...
The new 13/13As are all over the place. Don't think was a problem with the new route, just seemed to be coming in on time, changing to Not In Service and going out 15 minutes late. Didn't see any with Stainton on the front. One had 13A Hemlington, one 13A Salters Lane (going Linthorpe direction) and one had a totally unreadable screen!

For some strange reason a 10 and 34 swap over at 130pm! It was the case before today's changes and has continued.
