Why are you telling us standard workings Robin. There is nothing unusual at this. I'm also not having a go at you for this. I'm just intrigued as to why you feel the need to share this with everyone.

What's it got to do with you? For all you know Robin could have been out doing his "exercise" or shopping. If you haven't got anything of interest to say dont bother.

E400H are being used and so is E400 and MMC.
Thanks all for input.
The service cuts have meant that individual services are now, in comparison to last week, marginally busier. It makes sense to use deckers where possible so as to maintain social distancing. It’s a different approach to GNE, but a better one in my opinion (and don’t forget there are different demographics in an entirely city-based operation).

You don't have to stop posting Robin, just remember, that you don't always have a direct a question to a certain person because not everyone works for Stagecoach on here (i don't), so we don't all know the in and outs.
Like repaints/buses moving to different depots.

It appears Arriva and Stagecoach are thinking more about people and having buses which are bigger so people can spread out more rather than GNE who is purely thinking from a cost view. I don't really understand why neither since the government has commited to paying for any losses occured since recommending not to travel anyway but I'm sure there's a reason behind the scenes.
Panasonic44 wroteQ: Why does SNE keeping running DD on 1 and 22 Newcastle, when its less expenive ro run e.g. single like Alx 300 instead of storing them?
Not many ppl on them.
Thanks.
I can't comment on the 22, but the 1 has some extremely tight right-angle turnings at the Heaton end of the route which means that the shorter DDs are more suitable, especially if two buses meet at one of these turnings. It is not uncommon for a 1 heading up Debdon Gardens and wanting to turn left into Danby Gardens to meet a bus at the turning coming out the other way. The first bus has to go a short distance past the turning to let the other one out, then reverse to be able to continue on its way. Similar awkward turnings also occur further along the route at either end of both Whitefield Terrace and Second Avenue. It's the reason why the 1 has never regularly featured single-deckers in the 50+ years I have lived on the route. However, I do seem to remember single-deck Scanias being used as extras when the bus war with TWOC was being fought way back when.
For anybody who hasn't nodded off while reading this post -
After last week's timetable changes, the 1 seems to have settled down with a PVR of 4 E400H after a few MMC DDs appeared earlier in the week, although 19674 has also put in an appearance.

What you have to bare in mind is that when GNE mothballed two thirds of their fleet, there was no government package for bus operators, so they had to act purely based on the cost.
They aren't going to start re-registering less efficient, more costly vehicles to run on routes where you're lucky to get a few passengers anyway.
Routes that have higher passenger numbers are getting the deckers and routes that don't need them, even if they're normally allocated them, are not.
Take the X9/X10 for example, not a lot of people are going to be travelling between Newcastle and Middlesbrough, so it makes sense to run the E200s that aren't being used on the 97 there instead, those B5s can then replace the less efficient B9s on the 10, and those B9s can then be de-registered to recover some of the money from the tax.
Running a bigger bus for the sake of social distancing make sense, but only if the smaller buses aren't big enough. And with bus usage being down 90%, it's fair to say that most services could probably run with a Solo with little issue

Wonder what Stagecoach will use on the X24/X34, wonder if they'll stick to deckers or replace them with gas buses?
I think gas buses for x24 & Double deckers for x34!
There's a surprise Robin!

They're interworking from tomorrow, so was thinking they might stick to gas buses.
Dart 35188 is out on the 1 and 2 according to Bustimes.
I agree also about the gas buses being used on the x24!
35188 service 3/4 or 17/18

17 and 18 today. There are no 3 and 4s until further notice now. Its the 1 and 2 instead.
35188 was on the 10 to Low Simonside this morning.

That trip runs onto 17/18s. On the same board today minus the short Sunday&BH only 10, and starting at 0600 on the 17, last trip being 2254 18 from Brockley Whins.

X20 started in 1989 not sure of date.
X34 started much later 1998 I think it was.
Robin57...... Just to add into this I found an old timetable online for the X34 when it was introduced and it was Mon 2nd March 1998.
Its appears that the X24/X34 are not interworking according to Bus Times, with each vehicle having a 35 minute layover in Newcastle as a result.

Yeah, I don't think Stagecoach have bothered to route learn many of the ex Shields drivers on the Sunderland routes and vice versa. I would've thought it would make it easier if everyone knew all the routes.
The Gas Buses being used on the E1, E2 and E6 are very, very noisy - with 28013 being the loudest.
I assume this is a fault with the cooling fan? The noisiness of 28013 is louder than an emergency vehicle siren.

The frequency of the 30 at peak times was every 8/9 mins and operated by a mini bus . (Mini Busways). A massive contrast to today’s hourly service. Bus competition died out within 6-7 years of Bus Deregulation. ?

Indeed. They have been for a few years now, adding some irony in the “it’s a gas” livery which says “quiet ride” in one of the bubbles!
They’ve possibly not aged as well as they’d like.

When Stagecoach took over Busways, and all small operators ceased, all mini/midi bus services got cancelled then all services were streamlined to save costs.

They haven't, they aren't even 7 years old yet... Its gonna be interesting to see where they'll end up after they leave the NE fleet.... because i'm sure only a few companies have the gas facilities.
