Maybe it’s because the sky is blue and the bus passes under the sky?
If it was lighter blue, I'd say yes. But with that shade of blue, I reckon it's more about the Metro Centre.
If you think about it, the X22 & X66 have the same shade of blue and they both serve the Metro Centre. Obviously the Tyne Valley Ten is GNE's major service from Newcastle to the Metro Centre.
From Hexham & Corbridge, perhaps they're thinking of the following too.....
- XLines = Fast to Newcastle
- Tyne Valley Ten = Links to the Tyne Valley and Metro Centre

You’d hope to God people wouldn’t be getting paid to come up with crap like that. Do you seriously think Joe Public would look at the back of the bus and think oh that blue bit must represent the blue mall in the Metrocentre.
Just, no.
I even seriously doubt X66 passengers have considered the different coloured ex-EYMS vehicles relate to the different colours of the malls. Why would they, they won’t give two hoots and other than to please a few spotters who like to spot different coloured buses, I don’t know by GNE/the design agency even bothered.

It's not Metrocentre's shade of blue
I'm not sure whether colour blindness is been taken in account but green and orange is a big no and so is blue and green when using them both light or dark for blue/green.

Quite a few of the liveries aren't accessible to people with visual impairments.
From Dan's twitter
Our first two freshly repainted and refurbished Tyne Valley 10 double-decks hit the roads today. These bright green/blue buses are sure to stand out! The white/orange stripe combo is in keeping with our X-lines buses which offer faster journey times between Newcastle & Hexham.

Despite my previous reservations, they do actually look rather smart, although I'll have to reserve judgement until I see them in person.
I wonder how thorough the refurbishment has been, I'm guessing it was just reupholstering the seats and nothing more since I can't see USB ports in the backs of the seats.
If that is the case, hopefully they did something about the sockets that rarely ever worked, even when they were new!

The Metrocentre banner on the front looks bloody awful!
Although I guess that's down to Metrocentre's 'minimalist' branding more than anything

I was more apposed to the banner placement as when the coast road deckers previously had them when sat at the front it felt like you could only look ahead further into the distance, and the view down closer towards the front of the bus was obstructed.
I’ll reserve final judgment of the colours til I see it in person. From the photos it all looks a bit garish.

I think that lies in the hands of the designer of the banner rather than Metrocentre. I don't think GNE have used any elements of Metrocentre's branding apart from their logo (of which this banner is the first time they've not edited it!).

It is quite garish when I took a photo of it about half an hour ago. It’s very bright like 3941 is especially when the sun is out.

I don't know who designed that but it comes across very amateur with some noticeable bad design such as:
- The random gap between the window and the into x
- The font on the into Newcastle, Metro Centre and Hexham is way too big that it overshadows the branding.
- The font from Crawcrook etc on the other hand is way too small and looks weird.
- The mobile phone is chopped in half with no bottom border and looks weird ie the green bar across.
- There's a random from the app store buttons for websites randomly placed.
- The orange is random and doesn't fit the livery for gold to be used for all the talking bus icons (why not Orange?) and doesn't really do anything bar trying to force the Hexham colour onto it (or the Arriva Max turquoise otherwise)
- The Tyne Valley Ten is jammed in a small gap, why not use the space underneath and also looks weird.
- The from GoNorthEast is too low.
- The angles are either too shallow or start way to far back and it again looks weird.
Not a fan at all and idm the colours even known it's a bit bright.
Is it just me or has the new TVT livery (and also cityrider now i've took another look at it) been designed to have adboards fitted but doesnt have them? they have a clear space where an adboard would go unlike other decker repaints, and also having the phone on the side of 6071 cut in half to fit under an adboard and not poke out, such as the Crusader. Also, where's the mention of the 10A and 10B on the new livery, It only seems to have via points for the 10 beyond ryton and crawcrook. Is there plans to split the routes or something? Also it doesn't seem like these are going to be fitted with USBs, as the wording has been changed on the front and side to say "power" instead of the usual "USB", indicating that they're just going to rely on the existing plug sockets.

6071 - 6075 are complete, 6076 - 6085 are left to do.

The livery style of 6078 above is not dissimilar to some First liveries.
