The 6 extension is a good idea, might open up new links
(20 Oct 2021, 3:09 pm)peter wrote [ -> ]Again the 33 in Newcastle is a Nexus contract so not a service number determined by GNE.

I reckon it will operate as the 42, like you say the cathedral buses don't run with a D-suffix on the destination, although it is shown on the timetable. Same with the Nexus 33 which shows as 33N. Agreed doesn't help confusion when the extra letters are shown on the timetable.
I wasn’t saying otherwise

There's that, but there is the problem of reliability. I remember when one of the M services was extended to Lanchester it was quickly replaced by the 30 due to the reliability issues.

I wasn't saying you were - just thought I'd clarify after the confusion with regards to the 42 that both examples are the case of there being a commercial and a contracted service Smile

It's not going down to Quaking Houses, which I am sure will be provike an outcry.
So will the 20 go back upto 12 mins later

Theres a clue in the word temporarily

I suppose from a customer point of view though, they don’t know which is a local authority subsided bus. So any company having two 42 routes or two 33 routes is somewhat confusing. You can imagine a tweet saying “Service 42. The 12:41 from Durham Station isn’t operating” and a load of passengers in Wallsend thinking someone at GNE has confused service numbers around! We on here understand, that it’s out of the company’s control and GNE have avoided having two of its own commercial services sharing a service number.

Shouldn't do as the current 730 which it replaces only serves Quaking Houses on a night* (service 30 serves/terminates there in the daytime) and remains the same with the 6 extention to Lanchester

*except when they've had to pull the evening journeys from Quaking Houses because of issues with badly parked vehicles
Noticed on Bustimes.org, that the 327 is also returning to service on the 2nd November 2021.

I had forgot the 30 was still a thing!

If another E400MMC was available, would  extending the X30/X31 (1ph) not have been a better option?

The X30/X31 originally came into Lanchester with one of them heading to Burnhope then stanley, and the other going through Greencroft and Annfield Plain

One of the reasons I learnt to drive was when they culled it in favour of the first incarnation of service 30.

I haven't looked at the rotas but I could imagine the extra hour could push the whole rota very close to the limit of driving hours. Believe it's about 4 hours currently with it's interworking pattern. Also the X30 doesn't go in and then go back out as an X30.

Back in the “West Durham Swift” era when the Scania Omnicities were new wasn’t it?

I believe so, they were upgraded to Deckers when the brand was dropped

The Omnidekkas were the last buses allocated to those service before getting Toonlink branding after the Lanchester side was cut.

The first time I ever got on one of those it was luxury compared to the President's and Loylnes on there, looking brand new in gleaming allover red! - those were the days!

If the X70/X71/X72 ever got made standalone (PVR 7) from the X30/X31 (PVR 5 if Stanley - Newcastle only) for reliabilty reasons (not sure how they're performing), extending the X30/X31 would make sense.
If traffic gets back to normal, some of the 42D timings are ambitious.

Indeed. Especially during peak times.

Although not a timing point, 9 minutes between Mount Oswald and Millburngate Bridge just isn't going to happen at peak times. It can take more than that just to get through the lights at the New Inn. Even Google Maps suggests 7-12 minutes at peak times for car travel, and they don't have to pick up passengers.

The S1 had a minute more between Mount Oswald and the bottom of Claypath, but that almost always be late (and empty)
Revised route and timetable (Service 27)

On the nexus website. Anyone got an answer

I hear that 1+1=2, not sure if it's right though
Might be the bus gate opening up linking Sunderland Road and High Street in Gateshead.

Still looked like a completely unfinished building site at the weekend, can they finish it that quickly?
Stagecoach's X24 / X24A / X34 are also rerouted from the same date.

Maybe they've done enough work for it to be useable by buses.

They're changing which bus stop they're serving in Newcastle - https://www.stagecoachbus.com/service-up...:30:55:838

Don't know what the 27 is maybe a bus stop change aswell?
