Interestingly they seem to be retaining the side destination blind above the windows, didn't the Omnidekkas have those blanked off and a larger blind installed in the window?

Don't believe they ever had LED displays there and there wasn't enough space to fit one.

Don't believe they go down to that size.

They do go down to that size, and indeed there is space to fit one. Think it was due to cost / practicality and what spare LED blinds GNE had in their stores, as a number of vehicles that gained LED blinds during refurbishment lost them when the vehicle was sold and withdrawn. Plus it be a headache for them to create a non-standard set of LED blind displays for a batch of vehicles. The ex Oxford Volvo B10BLEs had similar issues due to their blinds being wider IIRC.
Anyway some evidence of LEDS in the side blinds on Omnidekkas.

The Omnidekka wasn't consistent, it depended on the operator specifications. I'm guessing those above plus Brighton wanted the blinds in a seperate box above the first window to remove a blind spot for the driver whilst other companies weren't so bothered about it.

It looks like 6950/6960 and 6965 at least will be entering service in London red aas they have had Metro flow adverts added and have been given their fleet numbers on the London red livery. There were several movements whilst I was there one of them was 6965 which was moved from the front to the yard at the back.

Seems GNE are getting more than 23 E400 as one I photoed today makes 24. Also at least 4 will enter service in London livery (6959/60/67 are the 3 I photoed)

The ones left in GAL and TfL liveries still look fine. A lot better that the ancient looking B9s in old East Yorkshire livery.

Bit random but why is the number for the X900 on the offside when for the 900 on the nearside?

They certainly look smart in the fresh GNE livery and a lot younger than their years (think the white blinds maybe help with this). Even those still in London red look smart - definitely suit red base more than Stagecoach and Arriva colours IMO.
Interesting to note some of the lower numbered examples are yet to appear in service, despite being among the first to arrive (think it was 6945 which attended the Metrocentre rally way back in the spring!)

So good for a decent period of life.

Agreed, they certainly look smart. I think the blue at the front makes all the difference. Though I do think their short and high dimensions make them look almost toy like.

6946 entered service today on the 900 only to breakdown on its first trip.

6944/45 are both in the North East awaiting parts for MOT.
6946 has now entered service but overheated yesterday, should be back out in service pretty soon.
6947 is VOR.
6961-63 are still in London undergoing MOT and repaint prior to heading north, should be delivered one per week over the next three weeks. The final one will swap for some of the examples not yet repainted.

Thats because it wasn't originally planned to be part of the Metro Replacement fleet. It was originally going to be a spare parts doner, however due to delays in other E400 arriving and due to the fact it's in decent condition they put it into service.

Give them a chance!
That one was rushed into service at the eleventh hour due to delays with the buses coming from London.

And 24 out of the 25 buses have been of this specification since day one... The last one not having this because kit wasn't ordered for a bus originally intended to be a scrap part donor...
