I have started a list of employee and work buses. I have got a good amount of routes so far and hopefully people here can assist in filling the list.



It is linked on Google Sheets purely because this thread would be never ending if I posted the tables here. I have split the routes into 4 categories.

Home - Workplace - Routes here specifically contracted work buses which generally have more stops and at least 1 stop is not a Park and Ride, Bus Station or Train Station.

Interchange - Workplace - Routes here are specifically contracted work buses which only call at a Park & Ride site, Bus Station or Train Station

Local Bus Services - Routes here are registered as a local bus route. Unless otherwise stated, all of the routes in this category should be able to be used by the public to make their a journey.

Internal Work Shuttle - This is for buses which don't pick up anywhere except the companies sites or just does a loop of the site if it is a large site. This can include park and rides just outside if it is part of a normal service.


Where the information is known, I have put the operator. If applicable and again, if known, the primary contractor is noted. The primary contractor being NETS, First Travel Solutions, Zeelo etc. The contractor, is the person to contact with regards to the service and and booking seats. The operator is purely put in for enthusiasts.




If anyone can fill any gaps, it would be greatly appreciated and hopefully this helps a few people who want to spot buses in obscure places and job seekers to spot where an unadvertised bus may run. That said, I take not responsibility for any wrong information and do not rely upon this list for a job or bus spotting, please do some of your own research as well. This is merely there to assist.




RULES:

There must be some evidence online that the service runs recently (so within the past few months) and believed to still run (Buses currently Covid suspended are not included. These can be included as/when these routes restart).

Any services must have a return run. No 'only to work' services. People must be able to return on the same service.
For local bus services, if the bus runs quite regularly, the primary use for the bus has to be for the workplaces. The route/route group should not be a normal bus providing local travel for local people but happens to pass through an industrial estate. That said, diversions at certain times to specifically to serve an industrial estate (for example) do count. Perhaps use some common sense on this.
Bus operator staff routes are not included. This includes home-depot and depot-depot routes. I say this because the lists would be endless.
Uni buses are also not included.

19 - Ashington to North Shields via Cobalt (daily extension) (GNE / Nexus)
52 - Ashington to Newcastle via HMRC / Quorum (daily extension) (ANE)
101 - Middlesbrough to Teesport Tesco distribution depot. (SNE)
552 - Great Park - DWP Tyneview Park (Nexus / Phoenix)
555 - Four Lane Ends to Quorum (ANE)
575 - Horsley Hill - Bede Ind. Estate (Nexus / SNE)
592 - Roker - Doxford Park (Nexus / GCT)
593 - Pallion - Doxford Park (Nexus / GCT)
792 - Blackhall Mill - DWP Tyneview Park (Nexus / A-line)
794 - Stanley - HMRC Benton Park View (Nexus / Weardale)

I also believe the 2A in Darlington (ANE) is subsidised to serve Amazon aswell.

I don't believe the OP is from the local area, so just to give a bit of context around some of these...
  • Daily extension of 52 to/from Ashington replaced the dedicated 494 service that operated between DWP Tyneview Park and HMRC Benton Park View, so the majority of people on these extensions are travelling to/from those buildings.
  • 22X/X39/90/91/101/552/555/792/794 are all designed to primarily serve business parks, so could be considered works services. Someone from Wearside may need to confirm if the rest are too.

That said, diversions at certain times to specifically to serve an industrial estate (for example) do count.
Does GNE Connections4 into Amazon count or is that a permanent fulltime route now? Random overnight services on 4/50 are also primarily for Amazon staff.
Is Stagecoach's 68 from Four Lane Ends accessible to the public, or is it DSS employees only?

DSS only I think
DWP Tyneview Park is a restricted area so any member of public will be quickly escorted out if they arrived on the bus.

A number of them are already in the spreadsheet under 'Local bus services'. Some I have categorised like the DWP buses because there are too many of them to list individually.


Regarding DWP Tyneview Park, could a member of the public use the buses 'through' the park, it's just if they get off that there would be a problem?

DWP Tyneview Park is a terminus for every route that serves there I believe. It has its own bus station at the entrance of building 1 of 6.

While it is a terminus for most routes (392 shows on bustimes as running through), on the 68, could you get a return and stay on the bus for example and go back to Four Lane Ends?

There isn't anything to prevent that, so I'd imagine yes.

A lot of these services will probably end in the future (2027 is what's being said) with the construction of a new HMRC site in Newcastle city centre.

It is worth asking as like the MOD bases, if a local bus goes through, they can (and do one some routes) mandate that normal public have to be kicked off at the security checkpoint so it was worth checking.

Can't think of any others. 

There was a service in Lincolnshire that went in to the accommodation part of Scampton, but no clearance was required.
Every other site I can think of that has public transport nearby, drops at a turning circle outside the perimeter or skirts near.
Point being, places can be strict on security if they want and hence the check.

It was a few years since I was last in Tyneview Park but they just raised the barriers when the (albeit not in service) bus approached.

In your case, different laws apply to MoD sites as it's illegal to trespass within them. On an HMRC or DWP site it would just be a civil matter.
Not quite sure if it qualifies as such but Cobalt business park has a free travel zone which starts at Newcastle Building Society and runs through to the Village Hotel.
