The two week closed line between St James & Tynemouth will not have a single metro replacement running. All tickets and passes will be accepted on all buses that call close to the station. This being routes

Arriva 306
Go North East 1,19,310
Stagecoach 12,22,39,40,62,63,317

GNE service 1 is the only bus to follow and call near all the stations with the 317 in second.

With no Metro Replacement for two weeks. Does this mean that these services will be upgraded to decekrs for the two week period while the line is closed
Hopefully there are plans to use double deckers on the 1 and 317 then - should be plenty of spare ones available with it being school holidays.

Remember the first week is still during school term time - which is why there isn’t a replacement bus service being provided…

There isn't a metro replacement for the two weeks. Even with the school

Who on earth could resource a Metro Replacement during the first week when the schools are still on?

The operators in the framework agreement are Go North East and Stagecoach (who have driver resource issues, even if they could stump up the vehicles) and JH Coaches (who don’t have enough spare vehicles to run a Metro Replacement service while the schools are still on).

It would suggest that someone has made a mistake when planning the project dates, and as such customers are left without a formal replacement service - although to be honest the ticket acceptance agreement probably works out better for most customers.

Well I can expect certain bus service to be full. Are we expect the 1 to stay single deck the entire 2 weeks as that's the only service to call at all stations or be put to double deckers
Got to feel for Metro users over that section of line. Now they might have to pay a fare during the blockade!

Tbh they could probably put the Streetlites on the quieter C&C duties with B9s and/or omnidekkas on the 1 or swap Streetlites for some spare Omnidekkas, B7s or B9s for the 2 weeks and stick them on the 1.

That was when the services weren't at full frequency though, wasn't it?

It was, but full frequency isn't what it used to be.

So it's sort of metro replacement but not a 900 one
Doesn't fit into the usual 90x or X90x number series...a commercial market plugger, perhaps?!
Bit of a good yet pointless idea

The M1 is to be ran by Henry Cooper

One trip during the day. At 5.33am from Tynemouth

How is it pointless? What other buses serve stations that early in the morning? Tynemouth isn't served by bus for another 20 minutes after the M1.

They have registered it stating that it is supported by Nexus, so perhaps not commercial
I've got no hope the gne 1 will be decekr allocated for the 2 weeks. They can't even allocate decekrs to the 1 for a festival in Tynemouth or even provide a decekr for a P&R there doing. At least arriva did well and have had decekrs on the 306 all day. This 2 week closer is gonna be a killer. Yes there ain't a metro replacement for the reasons of no one can provide one. But why not get service upgrade to decekrs to help with capacity numbers. Especially the 1 being the only route to serve near all stations

You’re wrong, double-decks will be allocated.

Which decekrs. Will it be a mix from Percy Main or from other depots

Coasters will probs be spread around Depots to release some deckers, I know 6087/6086 are spares for the 56, 6001, 6099,6100 are spare aswell

They could legit just send the Coasters to different depot and anything could come back. Send over random branded buses lol

Worder if the 19 will go Long buses as well
There is extra journeys on the number 1 between Newcastle and Tynemouth. Noticed additional runs in the evenings when I was helping a co-worker find an alternative route home due to the Metro work.
They have updated the timetable here

So here's what I can gather

Service as it is now every 20 minute

From 6pm the service will become every 15 minutes

Every 30 minute between Gateshead & Whitley Bay & every 30 minutes between Newcastle & Tynemouth making it every 15 minute for a 1

That will run till 9pm to which the service will run to every 20 minutes again with short tips to Tynemouth then at 11pm it'll be 30 minutes with trip one will finish at Tynemouth & trip two last of service will finish at Percy Main. (I'm reading this from Gateshead to Whitley Bay)
Quite surprised GNE haven't put out the diversion for the 1 yet. As they have stated on the nexus website that Tynemouth Road will be shut for two weeks

Tynemouth Road next to the bridge will be closed to all road vehicles for two weeks, 16 July to 29 July 2022 (pedestrian and cyclist access will be possible).
Go North East service 1 will follow the 306 route between Tynemouth & North Shields. I'm guessing it'll server all stops along the route
The post by Go North East

From Saturday 16 July to Friday 29 July, no trains will run in either direction between St James and Tynemouth. This is to allow the complete removal and replacement of Tanner Bank bridge, as well as vegetation and overhead power line work.

We have agreed to accept Metro tickets and passes on our local bus services in the affected area:

Coaster 1 – between Gateshead, Newcastle City Centre and Whitley Bay
Service 19 – between North Shields and Northumberland Park
Cobalt & Coast 310 – between Newcastle City Centre and North Shields
As a result of this work, buses on Coaster 1 will be unable to serve bus stops at Tynemouth Road between Linskill Terrace and Percy Park Road from Saturday 16 July until Friday 29 July. Please catch your bus from stops on Linskill Terrace, King Edward Road or Manor Road.

Temporary timetable changes from Sunday 24 July
We will also boost the frequency of Coaster service 1 on evenings from Sunday 24 July, from every 60 minutes to every 20 minutes, to ensure that there is enough capacity later in the evening when fewer buses run.

Coaster service 1 will also run with double-deck buses for the duration of the Metro line closure, ensuring there are enough seats for everyone to travel.
It seems quite a few services that are single decekrs are being upgraded

Arriva have made a move of some of there Pulsar to Ashington in swap for E400. These will end up on the 306 between Newcastle & Whitley Bay

Go North East already confirmed the 1 will be upgraded to double deck. Wonder if the 19 will be upgraded to Long single deck buses

Stagecoach don't seem to have done anything atm but could possibly see the 317 upgraded to deckers as well
6182 & 6143 have moved to Percy Main and are on the 1
(16 Jul 2022, 6:42 am)Aaron21 wrote [ -> ]6182 & 6143 have moved to Percy Main and are on the 1

- 6909 from Consett
- 6178 and 6182 from Chester-le-Street
- 6146 from Washington
