Would they not follow on from 53/54 Voltra 8810 onward

They'll full length unlike the current Voltra's.

5xxx are full length buses
8xxx are midibuses
As Storx says above, it's similar to the Versas and Streetlights. The ex-Saltwell park Streetlights are in the 8xxx series as they're 10.8 metres, the rest in the 5xxx series as they're 11.5m. The 8xxx Versas are 11.1m whilst the ex Citylnk 5xxx ones are 11.7m.

Ok ,  you cant really tell from the photos I've seen
New E12s all branded up at riverside. Looks like they’ll be going under voltra still with quaycity being a kind of sub branding?

Photo on facebook by Michael Mccalla.  Quite like the yellow, black and silver.
They look very nice!

Looks smart.  Does it get a bit confusing having Voltra as the overall brand name for one service and then part of the brand name(?) for another?  Feels a bit messy - unless the original Voltra's are going to also receive some form of sub-brand (Saltwell Park or whatever).

Shame about the last minute service change. the 'Q3' looks messy now

Not sure it looks messy particulary, just seems random to have a Q3 knocking about but no Q1 or Q2 (or service 3).

no i mean the text fonts on the side. It just looks wonky now since QA and QB are not happening anymore

Anyone know the fleet number of this one?

Looks smart and I’m glad they’ve kept the QuayCity name, but like the first batch of Voltras I just kinda look at it and wonder why ‘Zero Emission Electric Bus’ and ‘Go North East’ are so subtle.

Wonder why the 3 on the side is black but the Q isn’t.

Do we reckon they’ll have yellow cant(?) rail lights?

Yeah I know what you mean.

Although has anyone ever heard the 53/54’s departure announcement work? Do they refer to themselves as the “53/54 Voltra service to…”?
I’ve never heard them say that.

Must say they look alot better than the E10s with the pod on the top, on the 10s it just makes them look a bit squished if that makes sense.
Delivery has commenced of the 9 Yutong E12 electric buses, spotted already are:

5801 NL72 ETR
NL72 ETT
NL72 ETU
NL72 EUC
NL72 EUE

The Saltwell Park voltras have sub branding for 53/54 like the new quaycity's do
What do you mean sub branding?

The first batch of ‘Voltra’ simply feature route numbers and a few destinations on the side. There’s no route name on them (and I’ve personally never heard them announce a route name when the doors close), whereas this second batch are branded QuayCity.

Voltra seems to simply be their name for their electric vehicles, rather than a route brand, from what I gather anyway.

Also interesting Voltras seem to have their route numbers on the sides, alongside the main stops, whereas on non electric route branding there are no route numbers, so when they’re covering other routes unfamiliar passengers wouldn’t realise the list of stops within the livery aren’t applicable to that service.

Hate to tell me? Thank you, you’re the first to answer this as far as I’ve seen. As I said I’ve never heard this announcement before. Maybe they’ve finally got them working since I was last on.

So Voltra is the brand name for the 53/54.  And half kind of maybe the brand name for the Q3/A/B whatever it is called next week?  Super marketing that.
It's a bit muddled - not sure why a basic strapline with electric bus or e-bus (which they seem to do everywhere else - particularly on the continent) wasn't sufficient.

Where do you stop? Voltra Angel? Voltra X-Lines - you'll end up with a meaningless name having more prominence than GNE

I think it's muddled out of a lack of consistency. If the product range is Voltra, then I can't see the issue with having 'Quaycity' buses with a yellow accent, and say 'Saltwell Park' buses with a green accent. We've instead got two inconsistent variations of how Voltra is used.

The quick fix for me would be to put the 'Saltwell Park' name back on the E10s, then giving you:

Voltra -> Quaycity -> Q3
Voltra -> Saltwell Park -> 53
Voltra -> Saltwell Park -> 54

I wonder how long the Voltra name will last.

If GNE wants everything to go electric are we going to get

Voltra -> Red Kite Ranger 47
Voltra -> Prince Bishops
Voltra -> Sunderland&District Graphite 39A

Yep this was the point I was making.  Just very poorly thought through/executed, unless they have plans modify the 53/54s of course.  It does all get a bit confusing about what the brand name is and what the point of it is.  Unlikely as it is imagine someone advising "hop on the Voltra near the quayside and you'll get to Gateshead interchange" only to end up in Walker or Great Park.

At time of writing fleet numbers are unknown.
Not sure if it's been posted already, but they seem to have the fleet numbers on them now.
From what I saw going past earlier ETU is 5803

More tone deaf marketing amidst the usual sea of "We are sorry but due to [insert excuse] your bus aint coming" tweets, and of course the notification of further decimation of the network with Sept changes.  But good to see there's still time and resource to develop crap like this.
