I can see why people are thinking that. For Going from Rothbury - Creswell, you have to go to Morpeth (X14) then Ashington (35), then to Creswell (1). It would Cost £6 for one way or £12 return. It would just be cheaper to get a £8.60 Day Ticket. I just think that the Scheme has been poorly thought out and they haven't done enough to advertise the other options.
Also for a Morpeth + Ashington Weekly Ticket, it costs £27 or £3.86 a day. Much better value then £1.90 Stobhill - Morpeth then £2 Morpeth - Ashington. £3.90 One way or £7.80 Return. Like I said previous, They are just promoting Singles, not the other ticket options.
Stagecoach have no mention at all of it any of their vehicles (not Slaty) ones anyway given how shockingly high their single fares are in NCL it will only benefit those who are making a single journey.
If you’re someone like me who travels occasionally but regularly then the multi 10 journey riders offers better value than this £2 single at £31.50 for 10 that’s £3.15 a day ticket which, is better value than this £2 single fare.

Regarding SNE I travelled back from West Denton to Pallion the other day coming home. It only cost me £4 as opposed to £5 day ticket (DayRider+)

They are still advertising the Santa Bus. They might get around to advertising the £2 thing by 1st April....

They were both saying how it will still be considerably cheaper for them to get a day/weekly ticket than to buy singles.
More importantly, they said the way it's been marketed is misleading people into buying singles over a day ticket, which actually costs them more money. To be honest, I can see how that could be the case if you're not too familiar with the tickets available.
True, went on a day trip with a couple of mates who were visiting from Ireland. Was still worth it for them two to get a Day Rover each with us using 3 buses, the ferry and a metro. No worrying about prices of travel either, so we could get the bus up from the Quayside to the City Centre when we didn't fancy Dean Street after a day of walking.
Took advantage of the £2 bus fare today... by using the car for part of the journey!
Did Bishop to Gateshead on the bus, then just got a lift from Gateshead.

Does anyone know if there’s a list of fare zones available for Gne outside the cap?
I’m trying to pull some data together for colleague budgeting and I can’t find it anywhere,

I don't think there's any fare zones as such, other than the day/week/month tickets listed on their website, but you may find this useful for single/return fares:

That's hugely useful! Trying to balance buying overflow car parking spaces vs public transport vs taxi for the next engagement budget!

Saw something the other day about Quorum and the travel needs of employees there (including questions about other things). It's an interesting one.

it’s the ‘short hop’ fares I can’t believe. Parkside to Seaham, £2.10 single for an 8 minute journey but Parkside to Sunderland City Centre, £2.30 for a 40 minute journey. 2 miles vs 8 miles the difference 20p! I appreciate that actually quite a few fares were decreased in various schemes and fare caps, which is good news but I still think it seems like you’re ripped off just travelling locally. A similar short hop fare should be introduced.

It's £1.90 to from Morpeth - Stobhill which is only a mile and £3.10 to go from Morpeth - Pegswood which is 2 mile. I am suprised tey did not introduce a £1 short hop fare. Probs didn't think about it.
Have GNE put the price of short singles up to make them £2?
X21 used to be a fixed price (£1.80 most recent I think) anywhere from West Auckland to Bishop, now it's £2 from Tindale to Bishop with GNE, but still only £1.50 on Arriva

No, any fares below £2 remain as such under the fare cap.

There was of course a price increase before this £2 cap came in, so the £1.80 fare may have disappeared during that?
Have a look at the dataset here, as you can still see the fare tables that aren't currently being used (due to the cap):

You'd think someone woukdve realised that the current way of laziness, cut, bail and tax for bus services doesn't work. Actually no Im not surprised haha
Been charged £2 from stadium to John Street. Sure it was £1.80?

£2.10 pre cap on GNE, hasn't been £1.80 for about a year.

Would be £1.80 on any Stagecoach bus
My mistake. Thiught I was going crazy.
Load of people using the bus rather than taxi's due to this. especially from town to low fell after match
If the buses near you go a distance it's a win. numbers on X34 and 50 are well up, X24 busy all day with more chester road users. A visit to the Ale Gate at Alnwick usually adds up to 13/14 quid. 7 with the offer as its £2 Haymarket to Alnwick, driver said its £2 to Berwick as well! Mind you would be there long..

Is an Explorer ticket not cheaper for a day out?

50/50 its close, but still benefits those on a determined route. If you live in rural Northumberland this is a win for Newcastle travellers. Of course it has it's disadvantages. A simpler bonus for me would be Washington Galleries, £2 either way on 39B or 2/2A against the increased City of Sunderland day ticket at £4.70

The problem is, that this £2 cap becomes like crack cocaine to bus users, if there's no long term plan for it. It's now extended for 3 months, but what happens after that? Some people will see three-fold fare 'increases', after spending 6 months getting hooked on £2 cheap singles. We saw the issue with GNE making fares almost too cheap, then a new MD coming in and wanting them hiked back up.
I also don't think it's been as popular as the Govt are making out. If it was, then there wouldn't be so much of an outcry over the Bus Recovery Grant (BRG) money coming to an end. Thankfully that has been extended as well, but we'll now get to May and the same outcries will come.
Bus networks in some areas, including the North East, need a massive overhaul and development, but no business in their right mind would do that with funding being so short-term.

I would imagine an explorer would be a cheaper option as it includes the metro and ferry as there not in the £2. Scheme, unless you have a pop debit card.(and I think but not sure it includes the train between Sunderland and Blaydon) but don't quote me on this one.
