Noticed doesn’t mention Favourite, it must be a couple years later after 86 era when TWOC arrived, as Favourite services started up to compete against secured work against TMS.

Wasn't sure where to put this - was on Dart 1723 over the weekend and noticed the posters advertising the change to the updated Busways ticket machines in 1994. IIRC prior to that the older machines had huge separate red ticket dispensers - I just about remember on the deckers these were on the side behind the driver's cab opposite the stairs in the fleetlines and next to the stairs on olympians/atlanteans, but it got me wondering where these dispensers were positioned on the Darts when new (they must have had them for the first year or two and I can't for the life of me remember). Anyone recall?

Are you on about the transfare machines?

Just the machine that issued these kind of tickets: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/336040375347.

It was the ticket machine before the Almex A90, the machine by the driver looked a bit similar but the ticket was printed at a separate until in the saloon.  Might have been called AutoFare machine?

I know the machines you are referring to.  Big red oblong things which were seperate to the driver machine.   They had 2 slots, one for issuing general tickets usually and the other for issuing transfare tickets (the yellow ones like metro ticket machines made)

Im sure these were removed before the darts etc arrived as Busways had 2 versions of the 1 machine driver issued ticket i beleive.   Catch A Bus had these whilst Busways had the big red oblongs, then im sure Busways swapped to same machine as Catch A Bus.

Yeah I'd thought the same re the switch to the (also red) Almex A90 where the ticket was issued by the driver's unit.  But the first of the Darts arrived in significant number in 1992 and that switchover didnt come until Summer 1994 according to signage on 1723, so think the old style machines must have been on the Darts for a year or two

But if you think about it, didnt Stagecoach take over in 1994?  Those big red machines were well gone ages before Stagecoach came on scene.   Thats what im saying about Busways having a couple of variations of the smaller driver issue machines

Yeah possibly I guess though if there was a driver issue machine before the 1994 one, it must have still used the small black and white tickets as the signage was definitely about the then new style squarer shape tickets and I do remember those coming in around that time.
Busways had zero single deckers when they took ofver from the pte. The 100 was the first single decker i think but they didn't have a separate machine.... when did that route begin? the metro centre opened late 1986?

14 Oct 1986 according to Wiki

Service 100 was originally operated with  a minibus (Mini Busways) first Freight Rover ( Sherpa) then Mercedes minis

They actually had a number of single decks in the fleet from inception of Busways – 1803/4/6, 1822-31, 1835-38, 1886-91.  The first of the minibuses also coincided with launch of Busways (1101-40 and 1401-20).  No idea what the ticketing set up was on any of these though.  The first minibus routes were Newcastle secured services 4 & 5.

The 100 came a bit later, starting on 2nd Feb 1987, using branded minibuses, later replaced by Scania single deckers in 1989.

I’m 90% sure the Lynx had the old separate ticket thing when they arrived, but could be wrong on that.

Wrong, they did have single deckers as pointed out by my fellow posters. I lived a good 13 years before Thatcher destroyed Tyne and Wear Transport.
I’m fairly sure I remember the 39 and 40 being regularly operated by single deck at times.

Back in my early mis-spent youth at the Denton
My mistake then!!! I only used the ones and twos from Northumberland street to Marlboro crescent and have to say, although it was a long time ago I don't remember seeing any single deckers in PTE colours but take your word for it.

Was loads of them in PTE days, e.g.:

Less, but certainly the ones noted previously, in the early years of Busways:
