(16 Sep 2024, 5:50 pm)Aaron21 wrote [ -> ]Why is the point anymore. What does this benefit. Nexus paid for the 35 to go via Osborne Road to remove the Q3 as the Q3 passenger wanted a quick link to Newcastle. It didn't happen in March yet Go North East mentioned they would take the Q3 out of Osborne Road but kept it in and look what happened in September. They lost the great park contract for the people who wanted a quick link to Newcastle. Now nexus pay for the Q3 on some journeys so just think fu&k it and send the 35 back it's normal way. Pull it out of Central and change it to like these changes never happened. This is the most stupid thing ever. Gne should have pulled the Q3 out of Osborne Road and maybe they kept the Great Park.
It’s not stupid, there’s no point in Nexus paying for an extra bus on the 35 to serve Osborne Road if the Q3 is continuing to serve that stretch of the route.

It's stupid the fact Go North East decided to keep sending it that way and look what's happened. They knew the 35 was going that way so had every chance to pull out and they didn't. The fact nexus are dropping funding for a route that they have wasted money on cause they would rather fund the Q3 on evenings
Is the 35 contract likely to stay with Stagecoach from March? Believe it will be up for tender, along with the 18 and 32/32A, and the North Tyneside services (19, 317 and such)?
On a related note, does anyone know when the 516 contract is up for tender? Are Stagecoach keeping it? Read somewhere Northstar could get it, but can't find it anymore.

That's true.
Northstar could be awarded the contract for the 516 (or indeed any other service up for tender) if they happen to submit the lowest acceptable bid.

No, I actually saw a picture somewhere (but can't find it now) of Northstar 414 with a 516 destination. It would be nice to see them win it.
Do you know when the South Tyneside contracts are up for tender? Their aren't many, but the 516 is one that's had a few operators, and the main tender I remember with interest.
So how long were GNE receiving public money from Nexus to keep the Q3 on Osborne Rd after they [GNE] claimed it wasn’t commercially viable?
Now it would seem it’s suddenly commercially viable again.
Can Nexus be FOI’d to find out how much GNE was given?
I wonder if GNE changes its mind again before March.

I hope with the Rockets now being debranded. We see the services changed or withdrawn. It's an easy choice to make
352 withdrawn (37 is the better option)
353 increase to half hourly (like it was with Arriva)
354 sent to Whitley Bay (since North Shields is there for 353 and nothing else)
355 is fine but should just be a gct route

Well GCT don't run any commercial services so why should it be a GCT route?
You do write some nonsense.

Hey woah no having that
It's just a suggestion so calm your horses down

whats GCT not running anything commercial got to do with your argument? it's you who's talking nonsense. i think hes referring to the fact that GCT now also run the 351 and 359, which were previously GNE, and suggesting that GCT take over the 355. i guess that, because he didn't write it in offical terms that nexus would contract the service out to GCT if his suggestion went ahead, it validated someone putting 50 pence in you to pipe up. leave him be, moron.
It's got everything to do with the argument because the 355 is a commercially operated service... and there is no relation between the 351/359 and 355.
Nexus would definitely not contract out the 355 if it didn't exist as alternatives already exist.

again, the point your making is irrelavant. as when GNE ran it, it WAS commercially, and then they backed out, causing nexus to fund it. which again, is what michael was SUGGESTING they do.
while you're probably right about nexus ditching the 355 altogether to save coin, your argument is still wrong regarding the alternatives to the 355. fair enough between benton and forest hall or all the way to the city centre, but the 355 is the only bus from the forest hall area directly into longbenton/south gosforth and up hadricks mill onto great north road. hence why the 38 now goes to forest hall via benton park road and four lane ends, so the 355 can create that link.
now, stop caring so much about other peoples opinion and touch grass pal

Think your getting the routes confused here. The 351 is an ex Arriva route (51) and the 359 has been subsidised as long as I can remember under numerous different incarnations.
I can't see them dropping the 355 though it's always quite well loaded whenever I see it. I wouldn't be surprised over time if it got bolted onto the end of the 57 or similar instead though with the 352 and 354 scrapped - they really don't do well whenever I see them and I agree with the comments about upping the 353 to every 30 minutes instead.

The whole point in a forum is to share opinions - I have right to reply to what people say.
GNE have never ran the 335/351/359 commercially - the 335 and 359 have has been a Nexus funded route for years and years. Go North East took it on a short term contract from September to March last year when Arriva withdrew the 351 and Nexus retendered the 335/359 as part of the 351 contract.
In comparison, the 355 (or 55) has always been a commercial route and has no Nexus involvement. Nexus fund Stagecoach to run evening journeys on the 37 and 38.
