I bet that the X71,X71A after these changes will cause their X-Lines status to go. Also X1B??

X1B, I presume is the Haswell journey.
I'm not a regular user of the X10, but did travel on it again the other day to Newcastle and back and these always seem really busy.
Is it just me that thinks it would be sensible to go back to the days of the X9 and X10 every 30 minutes, with the X9 going to Billingham and Peterlee and the X10 to Stockton and Dalton Park?
I think the usage warrants it, and would give a quicker end to end journey time too.

I think many of us think the same but GNE clearly don’t think it will stand the cost (~£600k) of three extra buses and given the removal of the Sunday short journeys coming soon I don’t think they’ll be adding to it any time soon sadly.

Are many people going end to end though?
The X9/X10 cuts the intermediate links like Peterlee to Stockton or Billingham to Dalton Park for example, which I'm sure some people would want.
imo it should've have been something that should've been looked at under BSIP, with a short Peterlee to Newcastle service and doubling the frequency of two major areas without a reasonable rail link or alternative buses unlike the other towns. Even if it was only peak times.

They just need to use bigger,.more powerful buses. On Saturday the northbound X10s regularly departs Stockton with virtually every seat taken
There seems to be quite a few going end to end, or near enough, there's always good loads getting on at Middlesbrough and Stockton when I've been on. Getting from Teesside to Tyneside on the train isn't always quick and easy, depending on when & where you're going, so a slightly faster bus would help.
Not sure what other double deckers are more powerful (or if that's the issue) or would provide much more seating.
Go North East make the decisions and I'm only commenting on what I've experienced - the other day I travelled on the first bus out of Middlesbrough at 6am and was surprised how busy even that one got. Just seems there's a perfect template there for expansion, by bringing back the old X9.

I often did - with multiple bus journeys both before and after my X9/X10 journey, it made sense to have an Explorer ticket. Any use of rail on top of that is an added expense that, when you have an Explorer, is unnecessary.
I do get that it's a trade-off between cost and speed, though.

I'd be curious to compare end to end numbers between the X10 and those who may potentially use Flixbus or National Express Services instead between Newcastle and Middlesbrough.

I'm quite curious as to why the 4x new Cummins Ultroliners haven't been allocated yet unless they'll be used for the extra X1's?
Would make sense to order low height 12m B8L EvoSetis for the X10 though!

A B8L would certainly be an interesting trial. I'd imagine they could cope quite well.

Aye that's fair wasn't too sure either way; thought there might have been a lot of intermediate journeys since the rail stations in Stockton and Billingham, in particular, aren't pretty much ideal.

Aye, can get some cheap fares with them aswell.
It'll be interesting to see if Ember in Scotland ever head South; they seem to getting coaches for the fun of it lately. Imo some massive potential in the North East; the Middlesbrough to Newcastle corridor being one of them.
I know some will say E400MMC's are 'great' buses but let's be blunt they're absolutely awful for anything longer than 30 minutes really; Stuff like Alnwick to Newcastle, Carlisle to Newcastle and Newcastle to Middlesbrough are just open for the taking imo.

I understand that Ember do have plans to expand into England whilst utilising it's Scottish Charging Hubs and expanding fleet to 138 vehicles, they've launched a Glasgow-Oban Service this month which enhanced service to Inverness/Fort William with the support of ScotZeb Funding so certainly a possibility they'll cross the border later in the year.
I've always thought Scottish Citylink should extend a few boards of the 900 from Edinburgh down to Newcastle per day, Quite surprised they've not stepped up to replace the loss of Megabus Services as there is a gap in the market, same applies to Flixbus.

Tiny numbers, quite honestly. Sure there’ll be a handful where the times work for their journeys but the fact you have to pre-book and also the high chance of delays being imported from their longer distance journeys means it won’t be an option for 95% of people. An hourly turn up & go bus service is far more flexible

Yeah I seen that; the obvious one really feels like Edinburgh to Newcastle via Tranent, Haddington, Dunbar, Eyemouth, Berwick, Alnwick and Morpeth
If they set it up right with decent fares, honestly I could see it being very popular tbh, especially from Alnwick whoever does it tbh.
Once you've got buses to Newcastle; then maybe they might see the chance to go further. It'd be nice to have some competition on the intercity routes so the local operators have to up their game from city buses on the routes which aren't fit for purpose.

Wonder what GNE will use on the 82 service as they don't have enough Solo's as it is, which is why Percy Main still has the 11 plate Versas in use. I know the 4 new buses for the X66 are here now, but thought they might just withdraw Versa's. Maybe a couple of them Versa's will stick around.

Percy Main will probably lose solos to Washington for the service
Percy currently have 5387 and no other versas coming over yet so many Deptford lites went over to Riverside and with the EV200 in service nothing has changed or moved so god knows whats happening
Percy dont need as many solos as they currently have 356 certain doesn't need them. Imo 726/7/8 should stay for the 342 & 672 for the 333 and send 680/681/690 to Washington for the 82

imo they'd be better upgrading the 33/63 upto something bigger and splitting out the 8x 16 Plates to withdraw 641/644/645/721/723 then 3 for the 82
Sending 8339-42 is the best answer for the Versa's at Percy Main though imo.
Just need something at Deptford to replace all this.
