I reckon the tyres that Citaro5284 has on his Seat have India on them. Doesn't mean he is going there  Tongue

Fairly logical point to make though for that to heppen. They would either go NIS (PM journey) or go onto an X84/5 (AM)

And the last X85 will no longer serve Highford Park so it makes sense.

Can anyone summarise the services that will remain with Howard Snaith?

I have seen (today, Wednesday 15th) a small (midi) coach in Snaith livery heading out of Hexham with an 880 sign in the windscreen at 18:15 or thereabouts.
I understand that GNE will take over the 880 (via PCL) between Bellingham and Kielder (not serving Hexham except by connecting service 680 from 3rd August.
My sightings of the Snaith coach doesn't seem to fit in with any existing timetable.

Have all of Snaith's PSV contracts been removed? (along with school contracts?)

If so, will HS survive on private hire alone?
According to today's Hexham Courant, some of the HS routes taken over by GNE are on a 'trial only' basis - if they don't prove to be viable they will be discontinued.
Other routes are significantly reduced (in frequency).

That's great if that is true!

Well done GNE, hope everyone is going to give the services a try that can.

does that include school routes as well or not ?

Probably not, though school routes have been 'shortened' with pupils being expected to walk up to one mile to a 'central' pick-up point rather than being collected from their homes.

If I've read it correctly (and if the report is accurate!) I'd say only the Colwell service is to be evaluated in October not the "main" Bellingham route.
What happens now?

I think we should be told . . .

Will Howard Snaith survive as a local bus operator, as a tour bus operator or as a private hire operator, as a taxi service or will they cease commercial operation? Have they lost their licences?

The loss of what seemed to be the bulk of their local services probably means a significant reduction in drivers (and vehicles).

The impact on employment in the North Tyne area must be detrimental.

Whether Howard Snaith survive will depend if the Traffic Commissioner takes action against their operators licence - there hasn't been anything on the VOSA website yet.

Correct, the Bellingham service is a 5 year contract, but the Colwell contract only runs till early October.

I am sure that the County Council will take all feedback into account when deciding what level of service they can afford to operate in the long term.
I used to se the 79 and the 808 occasionally and when it ran the 879. I now avoid it at all costs

technically for howard snaith it will be a waiting game for them however if it comes to the worst they probably have to come up with a quick strategy.

Article 6 of Regulation (EC) No 1071/2009
So, that looks like cancellation of the schools contracts - and an 'invitation' to a judicial hearing.

I must say that this has taken a long time, and (whilst not prejudging the outcome) seems likely to be the end of Snaith 'bus' services.

I don't know the rules that regulate their private hire (tour) operations, but, if they act under Section 28:-

28
Power to disqualify PSV operators.

(1)
Where the traffic commissioner for any traffic area revokes a PSV operator’s licence, he may order the former holder to be disqualified, indefinitely or for such period as he thinks fit, from holding or obtaining a PSV operator’s licence.

(2)
So long as a disqualification imposed under subsection (1) above is in force with respect to any person,

[F34(a)
any PSV operator’s licence held by him at the date of the making of the order under subsection (1) above (other than the licence revoked) shall be suspended (that is, shall remain in force subject to the limitation that no vehicles are authorised to be used under it); and

(b)
notwithstanding section 14(4) of the 1981 Act, no PSV operator’s licence may be granted to him.]

[F35(2A)
If a person obtains a PSV operator’s licence while he is disqualified under subsection (1) above, the licence shall be void.]

(3)
An order under subsection (1) above may be limited so as to apply only to the holding or obtaining of a PSV operator’s licence in respect of the area of one or more specified traffic commissioners and, if the order is so limited, subsection (2) above shall apply only to any PSV operator’s licence to which the order applies.

(4)
Where a traffic commissioner makes an order under subsection (1) above with respect to any person, he may direct that if that person, at any time during such period as he may specify—

(a)
is a director of, or holds a controlling interest in—

(i)
a company which holds a licence of the kind to which the order applies; or

(ii)
a company of which a company which holds such a licence is a subsidiary; or

(b)
operates any public service vehicles in partnership with a person who holds such a licence;

the powers under section 17(2) of the 1981 Act (revocation, suspension, etc., of PSV operators’ licences) shall be exercisable in relation to that licence by the traffic commissioner by whom it was granted.
(5)
The powers conferred by this section in relation to the person who was the holder of a licence shall be exercisable also—

(a)
where that person was a company, in relation to any officer of that company; and

(b)
where that person operated the vehicles used under the licence in partnership with other persons, in relation to any of those other persons[F36and any reference in subsection (6A) below to subsection (1) above or to subsection (4) above includes that subsection as it applies by virtue of this subsection.]

(6)
A traffic commissioner shall not make any such order or give any such direction without first holding an inquiry if any person affected by the proposed order or direction requests him to do so.

[F37(6A)
The traffic commissioner by whom any order disqualifying a person was made under subsection (1) above may at any time—

(a)
cancel that order together with any direction that was given under subsection (4) above when the order was made;

(b)
cancel any such direction; or

©
with the consent of the person disqualified, vary the order or any such direction (or both the order and any such direction).]

(7)
For the purposes of this section a person holds a controlling interest in a company if he is the beneficial owner of more than half its equity share capital.
