Although Scania CN94UB/Scania Omnicity 4664 (NK07 FZG) transferred from Jesmond Depot to Ashington in April 2017 to cover the additional vehicle requirements associated with the seasonal X18 service; that vehicle has remained at Ashington, while this vehicle has instead transferred from Ashington Depot to Jesmond. This has been done to reflect the upgrade of one running board on "Cross Pennine" service 685 from single-deck to double-deck, to combat high loadings on one trip from Carlisle, which is otherwise overcrowded.

This vehicle, which was previously with Arriva London as fleet number VLW117, has been acquired by Arriva North East. This vehicle is currently being converted to single-door configuration, as well as being repainted and refurbished to "MAX" specification at Arriva London North's Enfield Depot. It is thought that this vehicle, amongst others, will be allocated to Ashington Depot, to upgrade service X20 (Newcastle - Alnwick) to "MAX" specification.
