Following funding withdrawals from Newcastle City Council and Gateshead Council, the future of the "QuayLink" services (which Go North East operates under contract to Nexus) was unknown. It was announced earlier this year that Go North East has stepped in to save the "QuayLink", and, from 26th July 2015, will operate the services commercially. The services will be revised to expand upon Go North East's current network of services. The current "QuayLink" Q1 service from Newcastle Central Station to Gateshead will merge with "The Orbit" branded 51/52 services, and will be re-numbered Q1/Q2. The current "QuayLink" Q2 service from Newcastle Haymarket Bus Station to St Peter's Basin will be merged with "Great Park & Ride" service X40, and will be re-numbered Q3. As such, all of the "QuayLink" and "The Orbit" branded vehicles will be repainted with a fresh coat of yellow and the branding will be revised accordingly. The two former Deptford-based "SimpliCity" branded Optare Versas will also be repainted as part of this scheme and the rise in the combined PVR of the current "The Orbit" and "QuayLink" branded services.
