Do you have an interest in planes? I must admit that it isn't one of my most favoured forms of transport [I'm more of a buses/trains/trucks guy myself], but I know @emdjt42 on Flickr quite likes all forms of public transport, and he's seemingly never away from Newcastle Airport!

FYI: BA's 787 (G-ZBJA) made a visit (that was actually planned and not due to some kind of onboard fault!) to NCL today. She looked so new I thought the photos on Newcastle Airport's Twitter account had been photoshopped!
Quite gutted I didn't see it!

I wouldn't be surprised to see her or one of her sisters back in the not too distant future on crew training missions - after all, I'm sure I read that Thomson are planning on flying one out of NCL next year to CUN and they'll need to train the dispatchers up on them.
If not, we've got to wait until April...

It's confirmed on a few rotations but it looks like its going to be a tech and pax stop in MAN again. The dispatchers are already trained on them, you only need two to be trained, exactly as is the case with the Emirates 777, however, there are in actuality more than that trained on the 777. There actually is very little training to it. It's just being familiar with the figures.

Durham Jets are playing tonight in the twenty20 in their season opener. Putting two and two together..
As much as I would love a flypast saluting the efforts of the FPF, it has nowt to do with us!

Never really ventured into this part of the board because, like Dan and others, I'm not really that interested in planes.
However, I do remember this and it was definitely the best bit about Saltwell Park as a child. The best part was emergency inflatable slide at the back. If I recall, it was usually unmanned, so my brother and I used to take a run-up before jumping and sliding. Looking back now, I'm surprised we didn't injure ourselves.
One summer, a few years ago, my friends and I went to Saltwell Park. It was the first time I'd been for years and I was particularly interested to see if the plane was still there. Unfortunately, it wasn't
I was going to set up a thread for TUI/Thomson Airways, but thought it would be worth going in here.
Sitting in Rhodes airport last week, the design of the departure lounges mean you can see the aircraft on the runway.
The eldest explained which plane he wanted to get on, based on the new colour scheme.
He isn't daft and is just about to start in yr 8 at Comp - having flown on a Dreamliner earlier this year, the bar has been raised.
I explained that it was probably an old plane, that had been refurbished inside and out - just like the buses back home.
He seemed to accept this and eventually we got the call to go through and board the bus across the apron.
Inside, it was pretty much the same as the aircraft (737) we had flown from Newcastle on.
The pitch was decent and there was a light colour scheme, which changed when a member of the crew used the touch screen computer located near the cockpit.
If this was an old aircraft, it had quite a refurb! Not just a seat recovering and a new blue floor.
Getting off, I made a note of the registration and sure enough, it was an aircraft which was only two years old.
Obviously I told him this and got the 'See, I told you it was new' line from him, which was expected.
Anyway, the point of the ramble was to highlight how easy it is to tell a refurbed bus, from a new one - simply by looking at the reg plate (which identifies the year of registration) and how easy it is for a non-enthusiast to do so.
As for aircraft, well unless you know and recognise the identifiers, Google is your friend and often the only way to determine an approximate age.
A few licks of paint, refitting of the internal kit and an engine refurb - passengers are generally none the wiser.
I wont touch on the 'new' Rivet Joint aircraft the MOD purchased from the Americans - cos that blows my theory right out of the water!
Is anyone off anywhere nice this summer? Any nice aircraft type?
I'm due to fly on my first 77W of BA, along with one of their 744s (love them!) and I will have my first experiences of American (Eagle ERJ145) and US Airways (A320). Not sure if I'm looking forward to the latter two as I'm already having issues with having to possibly pay for baggage with them!
Ive flown with both American and US Airways, both good airlines, i flew with US Airways last year on an Airbus A330.
I'm flying with United this year on 757 from Newcastle, again United are quite good too, I flew with them once from Edinburgh.
Ah that sounds good! I'm quite tall, don't know if I could handle trans atlantic on a 757!
It was a decision over whether to do DFW with AA or BA. I have an exec club account so very rarely stray away unless I can make a short hop with easyJet (I absolutely despise Ryanair and Jet2 after a couple of incidents with both!) Decided to go BA as I'm used to them long haul. I was over the moon when they changed the route to a 77W! Hopefully they'll feel as sturdy and robust as their 744s. Couldn't do long haul without at least one leg being a 744!
