RE: Arriva North East: Latest News & Discussion - tyresmoke - 03 Jan 2015

(03 Jan 2015, 8:32 pm)MrPottski I think the Max Omnicity's look good, but it was a bad decision to refurb such old stock to the standard it has been. Surely the decision to cascade the Pulsars from ANW was made a while back, so they could have delayed max, refurbished the 10 reg Pulsars from ANW to Max spec and got vehicles that were newer, in better nick and easier to maintain. The engineers hate the Scanias, I've heard 3 need new engines, they all need new heaters, the list goes on! I drove 4644 today and it had more screws, rivets and metal plates holding it together than enough. But, Arriva do like to get their money's worth!

I understand the North West Pulsars will be destined for Durham depot to be allocated to a specific route(s).
It's a shame about the bodywork on the Scanias as they're a solid vehicle underneath, but the Polish body leaves a lot to be desired.

(03 Jan 2015, 8:39 pm)ArrivaNE_7522 So the MPDs at Ashington/Blyth aren't finished yet? Are they all get e-leather seats, free Wi-Fi and the X14 MPDs in Max livery?

They've had a repaint at Thorntons, they should be fitted with Wi-Fi soon. Won't be getting Max livery though.
Should be 1773/1774/1775 at Blyth and 1792/1800/1801 at Ashington

Have no issues to report with the one I had on the X66 today other than the bell.

They really should have sorted the bell out when it was undergoing refurbishment. It's far too loud. The girl who was sitting opposite me actually let out a little scream and jumped out of her seat when someone pressed the bell... Granted we were at the back where it's the loudest, but crikey...

Just wondering, with the amount of non-MAX buses I saw on the X14/15 today, do Ashington have any MAX spares? At least three MAX vehicles weren't on the routes they were meant to be, or in service at all.

Someone else will be able to answer re: spares, although I don't think they do have any spare MAX double decks. If they don't have any spares, see recent discussion in the GNE Latest thread about the misconception of corporate liveried vehicles covering for branded vehicles when the services in question do not have any branded spare vehicles.

One was on the 20/X20 though: https://flic.kr/p/qBXHzh

RE: Arriva North East: Latest News & Discussion - tyresmoke - 03 Jan 2015

They should have one spare - albeit X15 branded

7514-7516 X14 (PVR 3)
7511-7513, 4653, 4659 X15 (PVR 4)
7529-7533 X18 (PVR 5)

That would, partly, explain it. WHY refurbish and brand vehicles for a service and then not use them, on the correct service!!  Angry Angry Angry

Ashington's allocations have been dreadful over the past few weeks.

There have been reports of MAX branded vehicles (single and double deck) on services 35 and 57, for example. It's crazy.

7529-7533 X18 (PVR 5)
So, lets say they used 7514 as the spare and put it on the X20 as shown in the picture Dan linked, at least 3 others (I'm inclined to believe maybe 4, but not completely sure) were still allocated elsewhere, or broken!

I imagine the ex Redcar / Whitby examples are the worst after been hammered on the X93 over the last few years.

Unless there is reliability problems, in which case fair enough, there should be no excuse for putting them on the 35 and 57! Why should the 35 and 57 get the vehicles intended for the X14/5/8!!! Angry

I make it 2 spares - given 7511-7 were all done.

Tom and me saw a Coastliner 306 Streetlite on either the 54 or the 57 yesterday when coming back from Regent Centre on 7622.

Would have been the 54 - 57 goes Whitley Bay-Ashington.

There was also a 306 Streetlite on the 54 today around 1500 off Haymarket...

There usually are a few Streetlites missing due to the 306 inter working with scholars services. I believe that Pulsars are required on some 306 boards in order to meet the scholars requirement. Some Streetlites are spare as a result.

Yep, it's three of the ex Redcar ones that are having engine issues. In response to Dan, I'd rather have a loud bell than a quiet one, let's face it, the Scanias aren't quiet!

RE: Arriva North East: Latest News & Discussion - mb134 - 04 Jan 2015

Just had a quick look at the Arriva live map, and assuming I'm looking at the right one, they've not changed it from X1 to X12 yet...
