Quick turnaround for massive increase in carriages.

I have used these trains for a few years now and despite the peaks being busy, some of the off-peak stuff further out around Basingstoke (and other areas), carry fresh air.

It is only when you get nearer to London (Woking say), that the services probably justify the extra carriages.

Double deck trains proposed between Waterloo and Reading.

The bottom point in the list hits the political nail on the head. Boris wants Crossrail 2 at all costs, and this is one way to sneak it in.

Valentines themed destinations used on SW Train routes.
Anyone fancy a trip to 'When Harry met Salisbury'?

Franchise to change hands. MTR and First to operate services.

Interesting, according to comments, they run a very good Hong Kong metro system!

Shame they can't run the Tyne and Wear metro haha

Shame the £29m South West Trains make every year doesn't go back in to the public purse.

The MTR/First deal, also means that a big wedge of the country is now dominated by First operations. Including operations out of the two London mainline stations to the West and South West.

MTR already have a presence in London and this will increase even further when Crossrail opens.

I'm pretty sure they were interested in the Metro when tenders were opened up.

It looks like MTR/First are making cost savings already.

Maybe more savings (and strikes) ahead?

The platform shutdown a couple of weekends a go took up a fair bit of space - I'd dread to go through there during rush hour. Luckily my nearest station is Euston.

Stagecoach's 21-year operation of the franchise has came to an end last night, with First Group and MTR now in ownership under the brand South Western Railway.
