RE: Go North East - Latest - Davey Bowyer - 19 Jan 2014

With 6071 having a Tachograph, would it not be a good idea to paint it into the Northern livery so that it could cover for the TTX when needed?

RE: Go North East - Latest - Dan - 19 Jan 2014

(19 Jan 2014, 8:26 pm)CatsFast101 It was discussed that the capacity for riverside for 150 buses, but I'm sure I read 170 somewhere assuming it's somewhere in between there as there will be 156 buses at riverside once Winlaton & Sunderland Road move in there could be some potential for a few services however the 43/44/45/46 have 23 vehicles which may be too much but I'm not entirely sure.

Stanley don't hold that many services really, Red Kite, Lime, Diamond, X30/X31/X70/X71, 15/15A and that's about it, however should Stanley be considered for closing (this is totally hypothetically speaking) the scholar service would end up with a lot of running light from Chester or wherever, it is possibly a key reason why the depot is retained.

Regarding scholars - on the flip side of the coin, are they really needed or are they often a drain on resources?

If Go North East have six contracts which require six double deckers at Stanley depot, if they drop those six contracts they can withdraw six of the eldest vehicles in the fleet.

“This new development will be able to house 175 buses making it one of the company’s largest depots.

Thats alot, seems they planned for the future incase of new services and new contracts from NEXUS.

I'd assume Nexus contract work would still be done from SMR? Allows GNE to keep their bid low, avoid long-standing union agreements, etc.

School Contracts from Stanley:
819-830 serving Lanchester St Bedes.
836 (at possibly more) serving Tanfield School
841 (I assume as I saw as 3814 and 3886 have both been spotted on it) serving St Thomas More Blaydon.

A private contractor in St Albans services their school contracts with ex-Hong Kong triple-axle double-deckers seating 102 children.

“It will last the next 40 years and will secure the jobs of all our employees currently at our two other depots for the foreseeable future.

Considering the changes since 1974 that doesn't seem that unreasonable, especially as one depot was built for trams. The Gateshead Depot was built pre 1896 to serve the tramway system.

Re Riverside depot capacity

When planning permission was given, 14 bendis were still in use on 58's.

Now they have gone, and been replaced versas, there is extra space in the new depot.

Ah right, this is one of those things where you haven't a clue about anything but when somebody tells you them you're like 'ah, I knew them'.
That is probably why so many deckers need to be based at Stanley, although the longer distance ones could be worked by other depots to get rid of some of that dead mileage.

RE: Go North East - Latest - tyresmoke - 19 Jan 2014

I think they only have the 151 in Benton as it fits convieniently after doing the 792 (which starts at Blackhall Mill) over to Longbenton DSS. Winlaton do the afternoon 792 I understand.

RE: Go North East - Latest - speedwheels22 - 19 Jan 2014

Think they should renumber 88A to 89 and the 5 to 87 think that's a good idea and sunderland 2A 2C what stupid numbers think they should renumber that service 2A to 12 and 2C to 12A

No keep the 2A/2C the way it is, The Service has already been re-numbered a few times in the Last 10 Years from 638 to 773/774 to 73/74 to how it is now, there is no need to change the Number of the Service, as all it would do is confuse passengers.

Speaking of older buses, Im assuming the Olympians are the oldest ones!!

After these which buses are the oldest in the fleet currently.

RE: Go North East - Latest - Michael - 20 Jan 2014

(20 Jan 2014, 1:16 am)ADLEnviro If I remember correctly the idea behind the use of A and C was something to do with parts of the route being, anti-clockwise and clockwise. Made it simple for people to know if they were going the long way or short way around a loop. Again if I remember correctly North Tyneside also had services numbered like this. One of the famous routes to be run like this is the 11A and 11C outer circle routes that circle the outer Birmingham area.

I think your correct on the 2A/2C part.

I remember when it was first launched, it was one massive loop service, the timetable was quite confusing. -

http://northeastbuses.co.uk/archive/GoNorthEast/2A2CSunderlandWashingtonOctober2008.pdf - timetable from Bygone era thread

Glad they sorted that out, service seems to of come a long way since Oct 2008
