Newcastle City Centre Developments - markydh - 19 Oct 2015 Proposed changes to road network Have a read but one of the proposals is for Percy Street to become bus only between Eldon Square Bus Station and Gallowgate in both directions. All the changes are quite radical though. RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - NK53 TKT - 19 Oct 2015 (19 Oct 2015, 4:22 pm)markydh Proposed changes to road network Good idea RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - Michael - 20 Oct 2015 Honestly not sure about changing Percy Street to bus only between Eldon Square Bus Station and Gallowgate in both directions.... Newcastle roads is already as tight as they can, would just cause congestion else where in the city. I'm not from the area but have used that road before and its a nightmare! RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - NK53 TKT - 20 Oct 2015 (20 Oct 2015, 11:14 am)Michael Honestly not sure about changing Percy Street to bus only between Eldon Square Bus Station and Gallowgate in both directions.... Newcastle roads is already as tight as they can, would just cause congestion else where in the city. I think it would work RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - markydh - 20 Oct 2015 As someone who uses Eldon Square bus station daily, Percy Street isn't as bad as some make out. An important point is that the traffic light phasing and road layout will also be seeing radical changes. It's effectively a total redesign of the road network in City Centre North. RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - Andreos1 - 25 Jul 2016 A nothing story I feel, but worth sharing http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/make-sure-you-pack-brolly-11649101 RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - Tom - 10 Oct 2016 How smart does this look! http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/whats-on/first-look-new-intu-eldon-12004048 Wonder what effect it will have on the Gate, with F&B, TGI Fridays and Handmade Burger Co. already being in there. RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - BusLoverMum - 10 Oct 2016 (10 Oct 2016, 3:35 pm)Tom How smart does this look! http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/whats-on/first-look-new-intu-eldon-12004048 Geore's sounds good. Something that Newcastle has lacked since Bimbi's went. RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - Andreos1 - 14 Oct 2016 http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/history/take-look-inside-newcastle-odeon-12021505 Ahead of its upcoming demolition and the building of new retail units, a look inside the empty Odeon. RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - BusLoverMum - 14 Oct 2016 Some of that machinery in the Odeon needs to find its way into a museum, somewhere! It's beautiful (the architecture, itself, is meh). Actually went to George's on Tuesday, for lunch, since it was my birthday (29 and a lot) and I was out with Husband. Chips were obviously frozen and fried in oil, but tasty but I had a lovely sweet piece of plaice, in a really light batter. They had a few teething problems on the bar and gave us our drinks free. Definitely well worth a visit. The loos, as yet unsullied by a Saturday night, are fabulous. Lots of amusing, quirky decor, artwork and fishy cushions. The package with the kids' menu is great because it comes as a folded hat! It's beautiful (the architecture, itself, is meh). Ironic that Bimbi's had a place underneath the Odeon. Wonder what became of the equipment in there! RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - Andreos1 - 18 Oct 2016 Newgate Street Shopping Centre almost cleared. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/going-going-gone-demolition-newgate-12039958 RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - Malarkey - 12 Nov 2016 Having taken some photos this afternoon on the reopened John Dobson Street, safe to say I can see a major traffic accident occurring on the junction at Laing Art Gallery/Library as the road is "tighter than a nuns fanny" as the saying goes, and I would deem the work done as unsatisfactory and quite frankly unsafe particularly during peak times as traffic is easily backed up in each direction and other factors could cause an accident e.g. Traffic Light Jumping being a prime example, furthermore witnessed a cyclist nearly get hit by an SNE Hybrid E400 as the bus turned onto New Bridge Street, personally don't think there was a need to pedestrianise it as much as they have to fit in the cycle path, and the road should be a lot wider than what it is. RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - markydh - 12 Nov 2016 You can't really judge it, yet, given the south end of John Dobson Street is still closed. Give it a chance! RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - Andreos1 - 02 Jun 2017 http://www.itv.com/news/tyne-tees/2017-06-02/city-centre-bus-lane-signs-described-as-inadequate/ Bus Lane signs described as inadequate by experts. RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - Dan - 02 Jun 2017 (02 Jun 2017, 11:58 am)Andreos1 http://www.itv.com/news/tyne-tees/2017-06-02/city-centre-bus-lane-signs-described-as-inadequate/ Hear, hear! One of a number in Newcastle City Centre that aren't great, in my opinion. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk RE: Newcastle City Centre Developments - markydh - 02 Jun 2017 That's not quite what they said. They said they meet DfT guidelines but the northbound ones aren't adequate. The southbound ones are fine and no changes are necessary. Fines will still be issued in the southbound direction.
