It does look smart indeed but are those doors really all that contrasting to the body side colour? It will be interesting what a colour blind/partially sighted person would make of it.

RE: First TransPennine Express - South Tyne Lad - 15 Apr 2016

A post from a Insider on RailUKForums has reported that TPE have ordered a unspecified amount of CAF MK5 Carriges to be hauled by Class 68s on Some North TPE Services. It's believed to be the Middlesbrough and Scarborough services.
Bi-Mode AT300s are believed to still be on the Newcastle and Edinburgh services.

Believed to be 13 MK5s sets apparently. Don't know how many coaches will be in each set but id guess at around 3/4 (possibly 5?)

From what I've heard it's going to be 5 coaches per set.

Thought 5 could be a possibility as I knew that they were looking at increasing capacity which is quite right - TransPennine services can get quite busy. Infact, I had to stand all the way from Lancaster to Wigan last October and that was a 350!

Likewise, I was on a 185 from Scarborough to York & return 2 weeks ago now and again, it was packed. Guarantee that the new bi-modes and these MK5 sets will make things much better than they are now.

Got to say my journey between York and Darlington on a Saturday afternoon around 4pm a few weeks back was pretty busy, didn't seem to be many (if any) seats available, fortunately mine was reserved.

Details keep changing about it. There is something like this going ahead though - was Newcastle, now Scarborough, was re-wired 442s, now new-build coaches...!

When it will happen is anyone's guess. I'd hazard a guess the coaches will take one hell of a time to build and then get ready for mainline operation.

TPX are running a couple of specials on Sunday from Boro.
One is Boro to Scarborough. One to look at if you are after some pretty unique routing!

Which other way was it going to go like? Wink

What I was trying to say, was that it isn't a regular route you can take in one go.
It tends to involve a change at York, rather than just a change of direction.

Fair enough then haha. You did get me wondering. Best/most exciting route to go would be Middlesbrough - Eaglescliffe - Darlington (reverse) - York - Selby (direct or via Gascoigne Wood) - Hull (reverse) - Bridlington - Scarborough. That would see me on it. :p

I must have missed this. Class 68's will be hauling between Liverpool and Newcastle initially.

Yes indeed. Then on to Middlesbrough and Scarborough after.
I think there's an order of 13x 5 coaches and driving van trailers.
