(18 Jul 2019, 7:13 pm)JM03 A X34 branded E400 is going to Newcastle NIS, is it going to walkerhate or slatyford, it’s not a X24 bc that’s passed me

I assume this will be operating the last or second last X34 from Newcastle?

(16 Jul 2019, 12:14 pm)cbma06 Original service 17 was withdrawn between Sunderland and Seaburn camp, service 17 was soon back on the road running from Sunderland-Chester road-kayle road-hylton road-Sunderland, then the 17 was put on from Sunderland to Doxford Park running right in front of George Bell bus service 125 and the 17 was soon renumbered as service 25, George bell travel 125 didn’t last long.

Service 26 went to the forge.

There should be some timetables in the bygone era on the site .

In the Busways era, there was supposed to be a new service 8 but last I heard it got shelved, if I remember correctly but could be wrong that it was going to be a minibus operation from Sunderland to Carley Hill via Southwick

I remember the George Bell 125 and 17, they ran quite a peculiar route via Gilley Law and Silksworth. Don't think it even lasted a year before it was re-routed and renumbered 25.

Also didn't Favourite run an 8 with the 9 and 9A?

Yea, George Bell went via plains farm while the Busways went via Springwell and thornley close, that’s how the 5 started off from doxford park to Boldon, I wonder if George Bell never put on service 125 then the 5 would of ever existed, yea when jolly bus came off, Busways put the 8/9/9a on, I think Busways only bought the bus service routes and not the buses or depot, as George Bell used the old jolly depot and also Welco used the depot aswell with bus service W20 and W21 between South Hylton and Sunderland

Thanks.

Still on the subject of old Sunderland Busways routes, (I know its the latest news thread and is probably off topic) I had always assumed they switched from three digits (1xx) to single/double digits at deregulation (except the 104 with was an extension of the 4), however there are images of buses running on route 107 to Downhill and 110 to Pennywell. Did these routes also operate alongside their respective 7 and 10 routes?

I remember the 7 running CBS - Witherwack via Newcastle Road, and the 10 presumably running the same route it does today.

Service 107

Service 110

With the exception of the 100, 106 and 139/140 which were all secured services which were there from the start, the other 100 prefixed routes were introduced later in response to competition from TWOC.

Yep, 104/107/110/115 were registered in front of Tyne and Wear omnibus Company 104/107/110/115

104 Doxford Park to Downhill
107 Witherwack to Grangetown
110 Grangetown to Pennywell
115 Sunderland to Hastings Hill.

I wonder how many people know the story why T.M.S started up T.W.O.C to compete against Busways in Tyne and Wear.

Did Busways operate a 107 before the TWOC takeover?  I thought that was one they inherited when they took TWOC over in 1989 like the 116?

Except for in South Shields. We kept our mini buses in standard livery and obtained the old TWOC LHs to operate the X2 service which was inherited but in a reduced route of just Sunderland to South Shields as opposed to TWOCS X2 of Thorney Close - Sunderland - South Shields - Biddick Hall

I wonder if there is enough room for two buses (or one to wait behind another). What could happen if for example, an E6 turns up late and the E1 turns up on time? As the driver would not be able to see if the stand is in use until they have entered the bus station?

Stand E is supposedly for route 30, which only runs hourly. Most of the time that stand will be empty, meaning that E's will probably squat on it if D is occupied.
