Saw 156484 leave Redcar Central at 12:09 bound for Saltburn. Is this normal?

Normally 142's along there.

Very rare to have a 156.

Thought it was pretty unusual for a 156 to head to Saltburn. Here is photo evidence of 156484 working the 1131 Darlington - Saltburn service today.

Booked for 5x 142s on the daytime service so very rare.
There are a few early services that are 156s though

It was still on tonight. Would have got into Darlo just after 1730. Dunno what the workings are from there like.

RE: Northern Rail - Mark P - 07 Nov 2015

There was a 156 sat in Saltburn station this morning at 0700.

RE: Northern Rail - Andreos1 - 22 Nov 2015

156469 was on the Saltburn runs yesterday (last night at least) and is parked up in Darlo, at the very end of P3.

RE: Northern Rail - Michael - 07 Dec 2015

Northern trains aren't running through Sunderland either.

Not a bad little monopoly for them or the German Government. The buses, Crosscountry, Grand Central, the Metro and now Northern.

They state services between Newcastle and Carlisle will be 12x faster.
I can only guess that some stations on the line will see a reduced frequency.

Perhaps stations being omitted by the train service could be picked up by the bus service which Arriva also operates between Newcastle and Carlisle? This would allow the train service to offer faster journeys, with the bus service stopping at all points?

The flip side of the coin would be to suggest that Arriva being awared with the Northern Rail franchise could have a detrimental impact on services such as the 685. Outside of peak times, the Newcastle - Hexham stretch on this route doesn't have an abundance of passengers following the introduction of a competing service by Go North East to start with...
