RE: Fleet Changes - BusLoverMum - 26 Jul 2021

(26 Jul 2021, 6:19 pm)Arcticrossy92 Sad to see these buses leave! Were a massive upgrade on the Presidents/Lolynes/Olympians running around on the X30/X31 (Lanchester-Newcastle) ,

Remember the first morning on got on one and couldn't believe how much more powerful they were going up Maiden Law bank, and how overall they were better for the passenger. Some of those old presidents felt like they were going to go back down the hill!
They're not better for us passengers with short legs and bad backs. A horribly uncomfortable ride and the staircases are lethal.

Agree about them being an improvement over Lolynes & Presidents but an improvement over Volvo Olympian Palatine II's?

Now they were TANKS in the NE. GNE X9/X10 & Arriva 501/505/518/X60 no bother! Hills on GNE's Derwentside routes no bother! Only buses ever been close to matching them have been DAF/VDL DB250s and Volvo B9TLs although perhaps the 6-Cylinder StreetDeck will go one better.

Lots of stuff happening at Saltmeadows.

6056 Durham Diamond is back at Saltmeadows, perhaps they are adding the curve at the front as it was weird that there wasn't one.

It's just a poor bus nobody loves it
It's just a poor bus from a cut and paste studio,
Spare it its life from this monstrosity
Easy come, easy go, will you let me go
Bismillah! No, we will not let you go
(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go
(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go
(Let me go) Will not let you go
(Let me go)(Never) Never let you go
(Let me go) (Never) let you go (Let me go) Ah
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
Oh mama mia, mama mia, mama mia, let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me,

Do you genuinely think the residents of Penshaw and Barnwell are going to be attracted to a bus cos of some cheesy patter on the back?
Or will they just laugh and point?

Just for a second imagine buses could talk (bit like Thomas the tank engine and Bertie the bus).

It rolls back in to Deptford during the day when it's mates are all out.
They come back at the end of their runs. Tired, exhausted and then they see that! The stick it would get!

It would be like when you're on a night out with your mates and one of them rocks up in a strange outfit.
'look at the clip of that?! What you wearing?'

At the end of the day, making people laugh and point is getting more eyes on the buses, which could potentially lead to more bums on seats.

It works on social media for the likes of Aldi, so why wouldn't it work on buses

It could also have no impact at all.
There's a finite amount of people within a footprint of a bus route.
If it doesn't suit their needs now without a 'cringe' logo on the back, I'm not sure how a 'cringe' logo on the back will suit their needs next week.

A bus taking people to places they need to be is probably going to have more bums on it, than a bus that doesn't.
'cringe' logo or not.

Big Grin Big Grin  Big Grin that's brilliant! You're right mind! I wouldn't be surprised if GNE's next move was to put faces on the front of all the buses and give them all names! And to be fair that might attract more passengers rather than all these different brands. I could see kids loving that.

Surely it's worth a try though?
Realistically it's costing them nowt extra to add a bit of humour, and if it doesn't work then there's no loss

They did that with the Red Kites and it was horrifying!

RE: Fleet Changes - Rapidsnap - 28 Jul 2021

At least they are trying to get passengers back on the bus with adverts on the rear.

RE: Fleet Changes - Storx - 28 Jul 2021

I might be naive but surely things like where the bus actually goes, how frequent it is and how much it costs would be things that would attract you on a bus. To me it looks like an advertisement for Washington Galleries as in there's no parking hassle in terms of it's easier to park at Washington than Sunderland or Newcastle.

Just all the associated costs in designing it, printing etc.

RE: Fleet Changes - streetdeckfan - 28 Jul 2021

1. They're going to put something on the back anyway, so the cost of making it humorous is negligible.

2. The Red Kites didn't add humour, they added nightmares when you were being followed by one at night

RE: Fleet Changes - Andreos1 - 28 Jul 2021

(28 Jul 2021, 9:28 pm)Storx I might be naive but surely things like where the bus actually goes, how frequent it is and how much it costs would be things that would attract you on a bus. To me it looks like an advertisement for Washington Galleries as in there's no parking hassle in terms of it's easier to park at Washington than Sunderland or Newcastle.

Assuming those wanting to travel to the Galleries live west of the A19 (that's where it changes its display from Washington to The Galleries if I remember right).
There are very few unique sections of the route between the A19 and the Galleries.
There's very little housing between the A19 and Penshaw Equestrian Centre.
Beyond there, you've got the section to Shiney Row roundabout (X1 and 4 are clearly kings of that neighbourhood - being quicker and more frequent).
You've also got a unique section between Barnwell roundabout and the bottom of Wensleydale Avenue.

There's one stop outside Southcroft - Galleries bound that is unique.
There's a tiny section along Fatfield Riverside (three pubs, a working men's club and 5 houses) which is unique to the 2/2a.

Every other part of its route beyond those two sections, is shared with buses that also go to and from the Galleries. They're either quicker or more frequent.

Quite why they think a 'cringe' advert on the back is going to make any difference and attract people on to that route is beyond me.
But maybe I'm naeive too.

People may laugh, point and joke. But I genuinely can't see the residents of Barnwell and Penshaw suddenly deciding to have a trip to the Galleries cos of a raspberry.
Stick the stuff on you mention and I'd argue it has a lot more value.
