Somewhat ironic, if the rumours are true with regards to Solos replacing Enviro200s at Carlisle, with drivers consequently receiving a lower rate of pay than present!

Yeah thats what I was thinking!

The Explorers seems to go up every year, I think it was £10.30 last year.

Former Stagecoach North East MAN ALX300 22728 (T728 OEF) is currently awaiting disposal. I assume it has already been sold due to the Stagecoach Logos being covered in black paint.

Seen the first of the new Optare Solo SRs for Carlisle today in the city centre.

In an all-over dark/navy blue livery. Destination blind wasn't on and there was a little bit of paper in the window marked 'STAGECOACH' and a fleet number. Was being driven by an inspector/instructor I think. Looked pretty smart!
Word is that a couple of them are already branded for 61/61A Harraby - Morton.

Heard that Volvo B10M/ Jonckheere coach 52626 (previously on 685s before being moved to Workington, I think for X4/X5s) has recently caught fire and is a write-off. Sad

£3 million blue buses turn Carlisle green

Stagecoach has today announced an investment of over £3 million in new greener buses for Carlisle.

The 26 new low emission vehicles will hit the streets on Monday 22nd June, but passengers can get a sneak preview of the new buses on Saturday 20th when selected journeys will be run by the new fleet.

Built in Britain, the new buses feature the latest Euro 6 technology to lower exhaust emissions. They will improve Carlisle’s carbon footprint as they use less fuel than the buses they will replace.

The buses feature a unique dark blue and chrome colour scheme designed especially for Carlisle by top design house Best Impressions, with each route identified with in different colour.

60                     Sky Blue Route              Sandsfield Park to Carleton Clinic
61/61A              Pink Route                     Morton West to Harraby East
62/62A              Purple Route                  Crindledyke Farm to Morton Park
76                     Orange Route                St Anns Hill to Durranhill

Passengers with mobility problems are not forgotten as the new fleet have low floors and wide step free entrances. They also have just as much space for buggies and wheelchairs as the buses they replace.

Commenting on the launch Nigel Winter, Managing Director of Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire said; “Our striking new buses are dark blue but underneath they are very green. I am delighted that we are doing our bit to improve air quality in Carlisle.

‘The investment reflects our continued commitment to offer our customers a more sustainable way to travel and with unlimited travel available from just £1.22 per day* (*Carlisle megarider xtra available online at stagecoachbus.com) it’s great value too.

‘Our fares in Carlisle are some of the lowest on offer across Cumbria and the new greener fleet is another reason to try the bus.’

Carlisle residents can have a VIP look at the new buses on Tuesday 23rd June when two of the new fleet will be displayed in the market place. The day will feature a red carpet welcome with special welcoming treat.

The new buses are arriving just in time for Catch the Bus Week which will see Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire joining forces with sustainable transport group Greener Journeys to promote the benefits of bus use.

The initiative, which will run for a week from 29th June, will see Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire working to encourage local people to leave their cars at home in favour of taking the bus.

Throughout the week, Stagecoach will highlight the health, environmental and financial benefits of using the bus more often.

Stagecoach is carrying out a programme of promotional activities across the area to encourage people to give the bus a try. This includes a free breakfast giveaway and Social Media competition to win 28 days travel across the region.

Kuyoyo states on this thread that they are Euro 5 - not Euro 6 (excluding the Honister spec examples).

Is Kuyoyo wrong or is Stagecoach telling a white lie in the above press release (given that some are Euro 6 but certainly not the majority)?

Seen one of the new Solos today, one of the 60 branded ones. They look absolutely gorgeous, really do.

I'll be on a Dayrider tomorrow afternoon giving them all a go if anyone is going also Smile Will be taking several photos too, probably using my car to get to places though.
I think there's a partial roll-out tomorrow with the main launch being Monday. I also hear there's one of the buses on display tomorrow too next to the Town Hall.
I'm away on Tuesday (most of the week) with work so unfortunately can't go and see the unveiling thing. Sad

Why did Stagecoach get rid of E200s and replace them with smaller Solos?

Carlisle-based ADL E300 27142 SN64OGE now features a scrolling bottom line on the destination with 'Newcastle' displayed.

Seen this morning driving to work. Also seen 27142 this afternoon but that had 'Brampton for Carlisle' on, so not sure if that has changed or not.

Not sure its being mentioned but Stagecoach has appointed a new MD for its Cumbria and North Lancashire bus operations. Current Stagecoach North
East Operations Director, Matthew Cranwell, will take on the role of MD, Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire, from 1 September 2015.

Can I just say, if you are going to Carlisle. I strongly recommend getting a ticket to Whitehaven to ride the loco hauled

RE: Cumbria & North Lancashire Bus Operations - northern156 - 13 Aug 2015

Carlisle City services are ran by the new Solos and a handful of E200s (and are supplemented with services out of the city.

Unless you do a Tesco move, Whitehaven is fairly unlogical. It'd be best to go to St Bees where services pass each other usually.

RE: Cumbria & North Lancashire Bus Operations - Davie - 15 Aug 2015

Should the new Solo Srs be allocated to the short 685 (Carlisle - Brampton)?
