RE: Durham Bus Stn - BusLoverMum - 02 Jul 2016

(02 Jul 2016, 9:40 pm)Jimmi From Monday 4th July, Stand A will be out of use due to essential works that need to be carried out, services which use this stand will use a temporary bus stop outside the bus station on North Road (on the opposite side of the road to the stops for the 64). I'm not certain where the X12 is stopping at as the paper notice says ALL the services are stopping at this temporary stop but the screen on stand A was saying the X12 will leave from stand D during this time.

I walked past that stop, this morning and wondered why I'd never noticed it before.

Does this mean they're fixing the knackered door?

The X12 is timetabled to leave just a minute before the ANE 24, so good luck with it trying to get onto stand D. There's already 8 buses an hour leaving from that stand!

I was really confused when I saw the flag for the temporary stop at around lunchtime, I only happened to read the notice whilst I was waiting for the 15:34 X22 to the MetroCentre. Think they may have fixed the door, not sure?

Stand A is also used by National Express services

Clearly shows Durham need a better bus station!

Shame it can't be built in to the redevelopment of the gate.

RE: Durham Bus Stn - RM2186 - 04 Jul 2016

Stand B was also closed today due to the proximity of scaffolding being erected meaning that stand B departures shared stand C

I bet that was chaos.

And i bet the 43 still spent 10 minutes at a time hogging stand D.

And the rest. It was chaos when I was there this evening.

Layover was full up of Prince Bishops Streetlites and an IndiGo Solo. A bit strange really, given that it was alleged that GNE don't use the rear layover bays...  Smile

There's almost always a Prince Bishops vehicle in layover. Especially when the frequency starts to do funny things after 4pm. Often an Angel in there, too, as that has quite a long layover when it turns up on time.

That'll be fun.

A bomb would improve it more quickly.

9 stands? Am I counting right?

I counted 10 Tongue

Not sure at all

I counted 10. Which would be one less than what it currently has and I'd argue that Durham Bus Station needs more stands, not less!

RE: Durham Bus Stn - BusLoverMum - 10 Oct 2016

Only 3 layover stands, too.

I wonder if the architects ever spent a busy hour in the current one. Or if they even use public transport, ever.

Must admit to counting 10 too.
There may be some behind. Obviously we can't tell going by the one angle in the paper.

There's only one way to find out how many it has!

It will also be interesting to see how this road layout impacts on the improvements being made currently to North Road.

RE: Durham Bus Stn - BusLoverMum - 10 Oct 2016

I was on my phone and not counting the slot on the far right - on my laptop, it's more obviously a stand. No room for an extra emergency stand like there is, now!

That glass roof runs the risk of being a migraine waiting to happen - Consett bus station is hellish and always leaves me sick for the rest of the day, if the sun's out. Architects never think about these things - yes, panoramic windows are lovely to look at but pretty crap for people inside. The new-ish Sainsburys in Sedgefield ended up having to install blinds because the sun shone straight in, all the way to the back of the shop, in the evening.

RE: Durham Bus Stn - BusLoverMum - 10 Oct 2016

The two behind will replace the existing North Road stops. Wonder if 12A is intended as the coach stop?

RE: Durham Bus Stn - cbma06 - 10 Oct 2016

by the diagram, the bus station will have 3 layovers, 12 bus stands plus stand 12A, and north road will have 2 bus stops.

The new A167 layout is an interesting one. Unless they're planning to severely limit speed on that stretch of road, then it is going to be a nightmare for buses getting out there without traffic lights.

Same with the two lane into one filter just before the footbridge, and of course buses from under the viaduct needing to get across three lanes of traffic.

That whole entry area into the bus station should be one big box junction really.
