Competition between GNE and Arriva?

I take it, X21 - Sunderland - Peterlee - then X22 Middlesbrough or X21 to Darlington?

Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.

Looks like a renumber of the 21/21A to X21/X22 - potentially the first step to them becoming Max services too? They're not exactly express though...

Looks like they are just renumbering the 21 as X21 and 21A as X22 between Darlington/Middlesbrough and Peterlee.

46 isn't really an express and it's being renumbered as X46 and becoming MAX.

It's a brand that's really lost its identity, then, isn't it?

My understanding of MAX was that it was designed for interurban express services - putting an 'X' in front of the route number doesn't make it an express service.

The X itself has become part of the brand now. Branding the 21/21A and 46 just makes it clear that it is designed for any interurban service. Shires and Yorkshire are both big users of the brand too and it seems to work in terms of growing passenger numbers so why not. Definitely not just express any more, though!

If I've read it correctly there's going to be a lot of confusion between the 22 and X22. Heading southbound a passenger will be very lost if they mix them up.

If I remember correctly they're 5 mins apart in Peterlee, off the same stand.
However one is a Sapphire bus, heading for Durham, and one is a Max bus (or will be) heading for Middlesbrough...

The 21A never had an X21 stretch - only the 21 extended to Sunderland.

Unless there's significant changes to the routes, having the X tag beterrn Peterlee and Darlo or Boro is laughable, though. We're talking around 80 minutes for the journey!

I would say no one would be that stupid, but someone did stand in the queue for the 22 at DBS, the other day, then rush over to the X22, complaining that it had arrived in the wrong stand. They got on it and went off in it, so I really hope they didn't get a nasty surprise when they ended up travelling through CLS!

When the X21 first started, there was a X21 that ran onto the 21A from Peterlee operated by Stockton depot.

The 22 will be a pale blue sapphire bus, the X22 will be a dark blue max bus and the 23 will be a green eco bus. What could possibly go wrong [FACE WITH STUCK-OUT TONGUE AND WINKING EYE][FACE WITH STUCK-OUT TONGUE AND WINKING EYE][FACE WITH STUCK-OUT TONGUE AND WINKING EYE]

Wouldn't like to be on that Jesmond operated X20, pretty much guaranteed to be allocated a Solo.

Services reverting to their usual timetables - the roadworks in Durham should be complete by 1st October.

The PVR of Go North East's 20 service will reduce by one vehicle with extra layover in Durham removed, from the same date.
