(13 Jun 2022, 5:28 pm)Nufcfan1982 The Stagecoach service 100 is being suspended again from Monday 20th June due to driver shortages. Not sure how long for but seems a bit of a shambles
Christ, they may as well cancel it completely and pay GNE a small royalty for each Stagecoach specific pass used on 10 and X45/X46. Its probably cheaper then ever running the 100 again!

Don't understand why your all saying stagecoach should just withdraw it and scrap it all together. Since it came back its been very busy. Especially the times I've been on it. Its easier and a lot quicker to get to Metrocentre

And every time I've passed it going through Dunston, it's been virtuality empty.

It'd probably be cheaper for them in the long term to just pay GNE to accept their tickets between Newcastle and the Metrocentre.

or just don't bother paying GNE at all and let people purchase Day Rovers or whatever like Metro and Arriva customers. I can't imagine there's a lot of people who specifically use Stagecoach services because of the Metro Centre link over other methods since you have to double back on yourself and/or travel through Newcastle which has more than there anyway.

Admittedly pre-covid; whenever we go to the metro centre as a family we’d always drive. The odd time we’d pop over to Newcastle from there and the 100 would always be first choice. Non stop and didn’t faff on getting into Eldon Square so always felt quicker than the GNE service, though in reality probably not much in it. Cash payers as well.

Purely personal preference, I’d rather get on an empty bus and be guaranteed 4 seats together than an already loaded, potentially busy, 10 or whatever.

That said, I was surprised to see the 100 make a comeback.

Given that most buses from central Newcastle and Gateshead to MetroCentre are from Go North East, there seems little point Stagecoach bothering with route 100 anymore.

Stagecoach can continue to serve MetroCentre on their orbital Newcastle links though.

You’d be surprised how many people use the train shuttle to Metrocentre too, at least pre covid it tended to be standing to the MC

This has always surprised me too and I’ve often wondered where these people are coming from, what tickets they have, etc.

I used to get the train from Dunston to Metrocentre regularly because it was cheaper than the bus if I wasn't getting a day ticket

I half agree. Post pandemic, as you say the 100 largely duplicates GNE. In a time of reduced driver resource and reduced passenger numbers it’s difficult to justify. If pre covid conditions ever return, I do think there’s a place for it though. I’d wager that stagecoach customers from the east end of Newcastle would rather travel by the 100 given the choice.

Yes these passengers may well prefer to use Stagecoach to the Metro Centre, as they could use Stagecoach Dayriders or Megariders.

Can't imagine there's many customer's doing that route regularly though. There's nothing at the Metro Centre that Newcastle doesn't offer so for most it's just getting another bus for the sake of it. It's different to say Gateshead where it's 50/50 where you go when you account for the slog across Newcastle.

For now, they still can with GNE accepting SNE tickets.
Not sure if there will be many like.

In my experience the majority of passengers on the 100 board with Stagecoach tickets already purchased - not many actually buy a ticket on the 100.

70 days notice to the local authorities is today if Arriva or Stagecoach want to make changes when the schools go back in September, or are they going to hang on until BRG runs out in October......

Hang on until BRG runs out is the more likely outcome - might be some minor changes when the schools go back to fit around scholars etc.

Don't know about Stagecoach but I don't see Arriva Northumbria making any deep cuts. Maybe removing some absolute 'Melon' routes like the X8 with other routes mopping it up in parts and actually creating some handy links.
