(08 Aug 2014, 7:43 pm)AIG20 All services that use the Wearmouth Bridge during the closures will divert via the "Queen Alexandra Bridge" instead.

Closures of Monkwearmouth Bridgehead Roundabout, affecting Services 3,4,5A,13,16,23,E1,E2,E6:

This is a joke. I don't blame the operators for trying to make do of a bad situation, but the fact the council have not thought about public transport operations at all here. It's an absolute disgrace that they haven't consulted with Go North East yet, despite them (along with Stagecoach) being a major stakeholder here.

Its the same in Middlesbrough and Stockton. The Councils shut off major bus routes at the drop of a hat for any excuse.

“Sunderland Pride Carnival” parade in Sunderland City Centre on Sunday 28 September 2014

We have been advised that the "Sunderland Pride Carnival" parade will take place through the City Centre on Sunday 28 September 2014.

Last Updated: 12 September 2014 11:34 AM

To ensure health and safety is maintained, a number of roads will have to be subject to a ‘rolling road closure’, and this will have a substantial effect on bus services.

The parade is scheduled to commence from the Civic Centre at approx 1200, and parade via Burdon Road, Park Road, Toward Road, Borough Road, Fawcett Street, High Street West, St Michaels Way (southbound), Green Terrace, Vine Place and Stockton Road to Park Lane, arriving by no later than 1300.

Although our local authority colleagues will endeavour to ensure that the impact on bus services is as limited as possible, there is nonetheless likely to be traffic congestion in the city centre area, and this may result in disruption to bus services.

During the temporary rolling road closures, buses will normally be required to wait behind the parade, or may use an alternative route if the congestion becomes too severe. As a consequence buses may be subject to delay, or may be temporary diverted around the affected area. As a consequence, buses might not be able to access their normal bus stops in the City Centre area during the parade.

Stagecoach apologise for any inconvenience or delays that this parade may cause, which is due to circumstances beyond our control.

Services Affected: 3, 4, 5A, 10, 11, 13, 16, 20, 23, E1, E2, E6

(26 Sep 2014, 12:42 pm)AIG20 Sunderland Illuminations and "FREE" Shuttle Bus! Big Grin

This could be another reason why 16833 and 16839 are now at Sunderland, as the shuttle service is apparently a "Park & Ride".

Would have thought this will be an easyACCESS operation - pretty poor form if it's not as the depot will be full of spares.

I know some, but there's only a few that can truely be revealed:

As you might be able to tell from the starting dates, service 58 and 61 will be reintroduced on evenings and Sundays on an hourly bases. As such, evening and Sunday 59s will no longer operate round Hardwick and instead will terminate at North Tees Hospital. An interworking pattern of 59/61/58 is planned - not as good as the old 'Magic Roundabout' evening pattern of years gone by but still. Although the 13 is also listed as the change starting on the Sunday (30th November), not sure yet whether that is also operating evenings/Sundays.

Thats good that they're reintroducing a evening service, not from the area but do u think they will be used well?

No idea - the 61 might do well considering the main idea behind the evening/Sunday service (along with a few other changes) is to take on Leven Valley. Likely to improve the number of Megarider sales along the 61 route.

By the sounds of it.

New Service 10 - will operate half hourly between Middlesbrough and Coulby Lingfield Park via Marton Road and The Hospital replacing current 37 and providing a 15 minute frequency will 11 from Coulby

New service 39 will replace 36,37 and 38 from Park End to Middlesbrough my guess would be every half an hour

36/37/38 will no longer run to park end instead terminating in the bus station

34 will now operate every 20 minutes

All services will gain evening and Sunday services

The new 39 to Park End will be on a 10 minute frequency. Not all services will gain evening/Sunday services

No idea - the 61 might do well considering the main idea behind the evening/Sunday service (along with a few other changes) is to take on Leven Valley. Likely to improve the number of Megarider sales along the 61 route.

On behalf of LVC Ltd can I say that I can see a great deal of common sense behind the December Stagecoach changes. I do not subscribe to the 'take on Leven Valley' approach. The appearance of more Leven services in the Stockton area was largely driven by attempting to keep options open for areas that could have been left 'busless'.

Our approach has largely been successful and though some changes will be inevitable Leven's approach has never been to undermine or 'cherry pick' the excellent efforts of Arriva and Stagecoach. We see ourselves as Public Transport SERVANTS rather than utterly commercial and try, not always successfully, to enhance rather than to conflict in provision of services in Cleveland.

Obviously additional services may detract from numbers using  Leven's routes and affect viability. That is part of life in public transport. I have dealt with that reasonably well over almost thirty years and though I am taking less and less daily control of matters plans are afoot on both vehicle and service fronts to continue, hopefully, enhancing public transport alongside (and occasionally underfoot) the two excellent major operators.

It is vital in this divisive and combative world to expect the best and try to keep a sense of good humour on the rare occasions that it does not happen.

I think I would largely agree with Paul Thompson in that from the (limited) public information available many of the changes seem sensible, and perhaps reverse some poor previously taken decisions. Indeed I don't see they are necessarily a side swipe at Leven Valley. New route 10 (if indeed it is a 30 min frequency Marton Road to Middlesbrough) will in my opinion significantly affect Arriva - particularly as MegaRider prices are considerably cheaper than the equivalent Arriva offering.

It is good to see Stagecoach finally getting their finger out and at least attempt improvements to a network that has been stagnant for many years. I do hope it is successful, and look forward to seeing the full detail when it is more publicly available. I do hope though that a good balance can be sustained and that Leven Valley does continue. I feel interesting times in one way or another are ahead!

Resurfacing works on Wavendon Crescent, affecting Services 5, 5A

On Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 October 2014, Sunderland City Council will need to close Wavendon Crescent for resurfacing works.

Last Updated: 13 October 2014 4:26 PM

These closures are likely to be in place between 0800 and 1800 on both days, and will require the closure of the carriageway between its junctions with Melbourne Place and Woodville Crescent.

During the closure periods, Services 5, 5A from Doxford Park towards City Centre and Docks will be required to divert via Chester Road and Woodville Crescent.

As a result, buses will be unable to serve Wavendon Crescent, Woodland Drive or Killingworth Drive.

Westbound buses should be unaffected by these works.

Stagecoach apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause, which are due to circumstances beyond our control.

Services Affected: 5, 5A

Sounds very good, the 34 should benefit to every 20 minutes, it gives extra buses from Billingham to Middlesbrough as well as another bus an hour from Billingham stops to its town. The changes it should stop the 36/37/38 being late causing two buses to always come, reducing the queues and hopefully stopping pusher iners. Not too sure about the service 10, it may do well considering its connecting a big part of Middlesbrough to the hospital and if its quicker than the 12 thats always a bonus - hate going round hemo'. I know its super early but I wonder if the 10/11/12/13/14 will be next routes to get new buses? (I doubt I'll be lucky enough for it to be the 52)

The plan seems to be to cascade the current E300s to 10/11/12

Better than nothing
