Go North East: Latest News & Discussion - March 2016
Roman Wall bus gears up for another four years - click to read.
One negative - the Tourist Information Office (shown in the photograph), currently located in the Wentworth carpark (where the majority of visitors to Hexham arrive) is going to be moved into the Queens Hall on Beaumont Street (where the library is).
IMO this will be the end of the Tourist Information (at least WRT number of visits).
Nothing to do with the AD122 bus, of course, other than reducing the publicity.
Maybe (when the new bus station opens) GNE (together with the National Park Authority) will display publicity material - though, of course, the new bus station will no longer be in the centre of Hexham.
Hexham's decline as a Market Town began when the Auction Mart was moved out of the centre of town. In those days the farmers' wives were dumped in town to do their shopping (on market day). Now there is Tesco and ALDI 'out of town' and these wives don't need to visit the town centre. Even the Tuesday market is a shadow of its former self and the Farmers' Market events are now monthly on Saturdays.
Sorry for the thread drift - but the news for the Hadrian's Wall Bus is good news (for GNE and for visitors to the Wall).
First ride out on an indiGo Solo today. Baring in mind I've never used a single one of Peterlee's yet.
I'm impressed to be honest. The Civic V3s make the difference for me. A nice and short journey towards Battle Hill. Wi-Fi and NSAs were spot on too.
My only criticism of the Solos is that I don't think the buses are big enough for two accessibility bays. But I appreciate changing that now would be a problem, given customers have been used to it with the MPDs.
(29 Mar 2016, 4:15 pm)Michael What MPD's will be withdrawn tomorrow when the Solo Sr's enter service on the 40/41/80?

(30 Mar 2016, 12:16 pm)Dan 554 and 566-569 have all directly been withdrawn from service at Percy Main, while 549 has transferred from Percy Main to Deptford.
The other movements have yet to occur, though 550 has arrived at Saltmeadows Rd for repaint into Go North East's corporate livery, and I believe this will allow a Scania L94 to cascade to Riverside as a replacement for 4921 which has been withdrawn already.

(30 Mar 2016, 12:33 pm)Dan Another Volvo B10BLE will be withdrawn as well.
(30 Mar 2016, 12:41 pm)Michael Really thought that GNE would of wanted to get rid of older MPD's but seems not.

Very impressed with the indiGo solos - Wi-Fi and NSAs are perfect and the interiors as usual are very smart.
We've just been through cobalt and 2 people nearly missed the bus because they didn't recognise it and both commented on how posh they were and an massive improvement to the MPDs.
Coming back from MetroCentre this afternoon at about quarter to four saw what I think was 3963 on derwenthaugh bridge being towed by a recovery vehicle heading towards riverside
