I think it would make more sense provided the 687 ran throughout the day

That was (and is) the problem.

The 687 was hourly, which was fine for the Hexham part of the route, but the Corbridge section wouldn't support the frequency.
Of course, by reducing the frequency also reduced the ridership as it wasn't 'every hour on the hour'.

I understand why the 687 was reorganised to run off the 686, but it has further reduced the regular users.

I don't know how popular the Acomb section of the 682 is, but I saw that it was reduced in frequency during the recent closure of Hexham railway bridge which meant extended journey times due to the diversion via Two Mile Cottages.

The last time I had the 682 from Acomb (just before it was reduced from being hourly) it was packed

My suggestion.
X21. Bishop Auckland - Spennymoor - durham - chester le street - metrocentre.
This service will be revised to operate every hour and replace service x22.
Sunday journeys will operate from Chester-le-Street depot using angel vehicles.
X22.Darlington - Great burroden - stockton high street - norton - non stop to Peterlee slip road - A19 - A184 - heworth - Gateshead - newcastle.
This service will allow for cuts or revisions to service x7,x9.
The service will operate the exact same way as route as service x10 stockton to newcastle.
This service will operate every hour during monday to Saturday daytimes.
Service x22 will be ran by Riverside.
Vehicles.
X21. 6301-03+6084spare
X22. 6304-07.
With revisions to service x10 6084 will move to crook allowing for the spare president to move to Chester-le-Street and displacing 3983 to riverside for a b10 to be withdrawn.
X7. seaham - dawdon - peterlee - wingate - norton - stockton - preston park - yarm.
This service will operate hourly still but will now use corporate buses interworking of the 265 which will be no longer indigo.
This service will no longer operate to sunderland and will brief a new extension to yarm.
This service will also serve dawdon.
X10. Alike sundays this service will operate every hour and serve peterlee bus station.
To avoid hourly breaks the service will stop at all stops between Gateshead and Heworth.
This service will also call into doxford international at peak times.
6043-44 will be allocated.
X9 6045-48.
5248,49 transfer to Deptford for service x36 releasing 4936,37 to Chester-le-Street seeing older y reg solars move to Riverside to replace the b10s

I think tampering with the 21s would be best avoided. We've had a system of 21/21A/21B/22 and so on in years gone by. The 21 did Newcastle-Chester-le-Street, 21A to Houghton-le-Spring and 21B to Witton Gilbert, 15 minute frequency I believe, with two terminating at Chester every hour and one 21A/21B hourly. Combing the 21 and 34s may seem cost effective, but I think it's easier to have them separate. 21 is regarded as the flagship route at Go North East, while the 34/34A are just a local service with a significantly lower PVR.

Your suggestion for the X21 would defeat the point of it being an express to Newcastle from Chester-le-Street. Including the Metrocentre would probably increase the journey time from 30 minutes to about 45 at the least I'd expect. Both the X21 and X22 can receive heavy loadings on their own on Saturdays, especially mornings and evenings, and combining the two would either push people onto the X24 for the Metrocentre (inconvenient to the majority, as a lot of school students use the X22 and use solely Go North East, with the appropriate bus passes, but both the X22 and X24 get a similar number of OAPs) or result in people being left behind.

As for the X50 idea, I don't think there is as much demand for a 15-minute ''fast'' frequency between Durham and Chester, but mainly the latter and Newcastle. The 21s to Durham used to operate every 10 minutes until late 2012 when service revisions coincided with the arrival of the Hybrids, and I can vaguely remember the X21 being increased to every 30 minutes while the 21 went to a lower frequency of every 15 minutes. Might be wrong, but that's my recollection of things.

I can understand your logic with wanting to combine the likes of the 34 and 50, which in itself I think is a good idea and might be more plausible than combining the 21 and 34s, but in terms of fast services, I think Newcastle needs to be focused on more than Durham.

Didn't GNE claim that 21A and 22 etc were too confusing for customers, hence the standard 21 number. I still think there's room to improve the 21, it still suffers from bad delays and bunching up. Short runs from Newcstle to Low Fell/Allerdene would help

One from me, speaking of old Durham Rd days (a quicker bus to Beamish!)

Hourly and School holidays/Summer only.

Eldon Sq - Gateshead - Low Fell - Birtley - Ouston then direct to Beamish. (Basically a twist on the old 728 and 709 routes cut off at Beamish)

(24 Jul 2016, 9:20 pm)Ambassador Didn't GNE claim that 21A and 22 etc were too confusing for customers, hence the standard 21 number.

X28

Eldon Sq - Gateshead - Low Fell - Birtley - Ouston then direct to Beamish. (Basically a twist on the old 728 and 709 routes cut off at Beamish)

Yeah, then renumbered everything as the 21 and caused all sorts of confusion - with punters using the number and not ultimate destination.
So they split them as the 21 and 22 and then got rid of the 22 - going back to the one number system again.

The suggestion that a TEN should run up to Allendale and Allenheads (not to mention Battle Hill and Hadrian Park) is a recipe for disaster IMO.

By all means schedule connecting buses, but what happens when there are delays somewhere along the route?

As it is, Hexham usually keeps a spare to slot into the TEN route when the incoming bus is delayed.

Adding the section up to Allendale and Allenheads would inevitably add more delays (I'm not talking about extended running times but those unpredictable delays).

South Tyneside and Gateshead Service Revisions

New Citylink Service 58 - Newcastle Market Street , Gateshead Interchange , Deckham , Wardley , A184 , Southern Side of Fellgate Estate , Hedworth , South Leam , Tyne Dock , Chichester , South Shields

A mostly new routing to the current 58, Replacing the Q1/Q2 section between Gateshead Interchange and Heworth, And the routing of the Original Fab Fifty Seven years ago to Shields.

This will be a faster, More direct service compared to the 27 but will still serve heavily populated Residential Estates along the way, Aswell as competing with the unreliable Green and Yellow Line Metro Services.
Fares will compete with Metro between South Shields and Fellgate, With a direct service in under 35 Mins from Fellgate and 50 Mins from Tyne Dock.
The current Versa's will be displaced to another Service mentioned below, A batch of 15 Optare Metrocity's will come to replace the displaced Citylink Versa's to South Tyne Service 88.

Frequency :

4-6AM First journey from South Shields at 4:40AM , Arriving at Market around a hour later. Half Hourly with all services going to South Shields
6-9AM Frequency ups to every 10 Mins, With 4 Buses an hour finishing short at Heworth, 2 Buses a Hour extend the full route to South Shields.
9AM-6PM Every 10 Mins with 4 Buses an hour finishing at Heworth, 2 Continue to South Shields. Diagrams will finish with a Short to Heworth after Peak Time, Before running light to Riverside, 1 Diagram finishes at Gateshead, Running from South Shields.
6-End of Service : Half Hourly, Running full route to South Shields, Late night departure at 23:45 from Market Street on Fridays and Saturdays, Finishing at Tyne Dock.

Quaylink Service Q1/Q2 - Newcastle Central Station - Quayside - Gateshead Interchange - Low Fell - Wrekenton - Heworth - Current 58 route to Gateshead .

Service will remain unchanged but will be rerouted on the current 58 route to Gateshead to replace the 58, A extra 1 Versa will be added into the PVR coming from the Citylink batch.

South Tyne Service 88/88A South Shields - Chichester - South Tyneside Hospital - Simonside - South Leam - Jarrow - Jarrow Estates - Hebburn - Monkton Lane - Lukes Lane

Current Versa + 1 Solar allocation is replaced with a 11x Optare Versa Allocation off the Citylink 58, A extra Versa is allocated to allow more running time.
Next Stop Announcements will also be provided to make use of the NSA's inside these Versa's, Free Wifi is also provided, Upgrading the spec on this route.

Section between Jarrow and Lukes Lane is downgraded to every 30 Mins, Due to the less passengers using this section. A quicker and already present alternative is via the 27, Which serves Hebburn and Monkton Lane estates.
The Section between Jarrow and South Shields is upgraded to every 10 mins ( 88 Every 20 Mins and 88A the Same ) Competing with Stagecoach's Service 18 between Brockely Whins and South Shields and erasing capacity issues at Peak Times.

New Purple Arrow Service 15 South Shields - Westoe - Harton Nook - Whiteleas - Bolden Colliery - Wardley - Then current 67 route Winlaton via the Metrocentre, Also will serve Gateshead Interchange

A new service similar to the recent Blue Arrow Concept, This time connecting South Tyneside to the Metrocentre.

This service serves area not served by the Metro-X66 Connection, Getting more passengers onto the former Service 67aswell as offering a Semi-Fast service to the Metrocentre from South Tyneside.

PVR would be in the region of 7 or 8, With Half-Hourly frequencys during the day, And Hourly frequency's in Early Mornings and Late Evenings running Wardley - Metrocentre only.
Sundays will be Hourly on the Full route to South Shields, Reverting to only Wardley - Metrocentre in the evening

The last departure from the Metrocentre to South Shields will be 9:40 PM on Weekdays and Saturdays and 5:40 PM on Sundays.

A ( Hopefully ) Short Term allocation of 4932-35, 4942-43 and 4966 would be in place, 4926-4931 will remain as Red Spares.
