(11 Dec 2016, 1:15 pm)SJamie M 6013/4 + 3886 are Stanley's problem buses - which is why they are always used as taxis. Even 3887 has had a bad spell, but that's the nature of them. 6014 has had so many spare parts used to try and fix it, the fan is a lot better - but it's still a poor motor. 3886, similarly, but so long as any repairs last, it'll undoubtedly be welcomed back. It had a powerful engine whilst on X30/1, so no reason why it shouldn't still have potential. 3886 has always been the real problem trident.

Nothing wrong with 3886 imo, it's very warm and fairly quick.

I agree - 6014 seemed to have improved to me until it decided it didn't want to go forwards until the driver reset the bus.

They break down a lot and have a lot of tests done whilst being on taxi boards. It's a means of the engineering depot repairing and seeing whether or not they are sustainable. Consett and Stanley supervisors insist 86 and 14 aren't pulled off taxi boards, and instead take an olympian or call the depot for a new bus, due to the unreliability of these two buses. 16 used to be similar with a faulty ABS and retarder, but since a sustainable repair has been undertaken, it sees service almost every day on a service 15 or northern board on a cold night. When the buses work, they have very few problems, but the frequency of both new and repeating issues makes them very unlikely contenders to be put into public service. You'll only normally see these two on scholars services which themselves are contracted or scholars with a contracted route on the end of the board (V8 to crookgate etc), to keep the milage of the better buses down. Sometimes they are thrown onto the 828/6/X70 for the same reason.

I had a mate from Birmingham who that when on a trip up here and he didn't enjoy the fan on a 15 due to it being at high revs and the fan being extremely loud because of it, Ive certainly gained a headache or two of one of them in the past.

I'm just happy Deptford have non, rather have Vykings.... Tongue

The Plaxton Presidents should start to go next year, think there's 28 to replace, which hopefully means GNE have invested in 28 new buses Tongue

I'm the opposite, Always prefer the President's to the Vykings!

They will no doubt be close to the top of the list for things to go soon, A big investment into a major route like the Angel could wipe most of them out in one go.

Don't think we'll see new buses on the angel in this financial year, maybe the 2017/2018 one (June to May?) but you never know.

Hopefully the X9/X10 are down for new buses, along with the TEN or Cobalt Clipper (or maybe all 3 services? Tongue), would be helpful, it also means first of the Vykings could go.. maybe GNE might invest in more deckers this year compared to single deckers?

Wonder when we will see the first new buses arrive?

40 new Streetdeckers (with no tables) replaces

28 Presidents
12 Vykings

Means only 4 Vykings remain BUT  i very much doubt that GNE will buy all those at once!

Indeed - it won't be in this round of orders when any new buses, if planned, arrive for the 21. They can't come off until October next year by which point they will indeed be into the 2017/18 financial year - id maybe look at the 2018/19 financial year though to be honest but thats just me.

The TEN could be a candidate for investment Imo, As the PVR is allocated a mix of buses with varying specs, The B9TL's could then go to Stanley ( rough guess there's a similar amount of Omnidekka's at Stanley ) to replace the majority if not all Omnidekka's on Northern's 6/X70 and X71, Hopefully a brand of some sort could be introduced if that were to happen.

Omnidekka's could then displace President's and Vyking's to either disposal or float vehicles, With a small pool of Vyking's being allocated to Riverside for Jewish Scholars and Private Contracts.

Just a rough idea with no exact clue how many buses I'd be tampering with  Tongue
Might try and create a plan when I have time.

I think i mentioned this in another thread but EYMS are currently in the process of coverting their 9xx E400Hs into fully diesel operation following the end of their GBF period. 904 was the first to be completed and put back into service with a couple off the road for the same treatment now. I have no idea whether it is possible to do something similar with the B5LHs and, to be honest, it isnt really worth it but it may open up where they could go once they get replaced.

I personally haven't had it in a long time either, Always had 6013 when ive been up.
13 is no good either. 09 is decent since washy fixed it, 12 is going strong but has a massive painful fault and 16 is good since the faults were repaired in october. 12, like 5337/8 has the steering wheel way out - but not only this - it veers to the right when the wheel brake is applied. 6009, and 16 are the only ones which fall under 'drivable'. Drivers say 6011 is mint, but dies on the hills, same with 32. This makes them completely unsuitable in dewentside. They do the job, but only just, and for seemingly a limited scope of time.

Stanley doesn't need any premium buses, it just needs some with gearboxes which are the right size for the terrain. Streetlites die on any embankment because of the size of the gears, constantly slipping into 3rd then back to 2nd, causing a huge jolt multiple times per hill.
Stanley should have been structured around its purpose - a budget depot. They should be sending more mercs and omnicites up there because they work perfectly - not sending the decade old buses around to routes which would be perfect for cheap gearboxes. Although this is now turning into a service suggestion/upgrades post, they should be upgrading the 1 or 50 and cascading them to Stanley, not sending old Stanley buses elsewhere. The omnicity redkite allocation was flawless - streetlites were a downgrade.

Looping back, if you wish to see decent presidents on B7 chassis; 6009,11 and 16 are the best. The rest are not a pleasure to be in (32 is questionable), nor suitable for dewentside trips. Catch one on a 16/a from Stanley to Consett and you will have a flawless ride. South moor and South stanley will be painful on one of those.

Didn't sound as bad the last time I rode it about a month ago.

If you think you's had a bad journey, first time I had it, stopped at some temporary traffic lights at Earl's House (not far from Sniperley Park & Ride site) then it went into limp mode, let me tell you going uphill in a bus that is achieving a maximum speed of about 15mph with cars eager to overtake you is a terrifying prospect, got booted off at Lanchester.

(11 Dec 2016, 5:35 pm)Jimmi Didn't sound as bad the last time I rode it about a month ago.

I'd say that's pretty normal for the B7 Presidents?

Never had any issue with Washingtons on the X1 and tend to see them perform better on hills than the Gemini's (which seem to struggle).

6001-6007 &  6043-6048 are my most hated gemanis , don't like the sound of engines in them.

(11 Dec 2016, 5:01 pm)S813 FVK I think i mentioned this in another thread but EYMS are currently in the process of coverting their 9xx E400Hs into fully diesel operation following the end of their GBF period. 904 was the first to be completed and put back into service with a couple off the road for the same treatment now. I have no idea whether it is possible to do something similar with the B5LHs and, to be honest, it isnt really worth it but it may open up where they could go once they get replaced.
Probably difficult and expensive.
