First TransPennine Express
I'm planning on getting one of these to York on Monday. I may sound a little stupid when I ask this, but do First TPE trains have WiFi?

According to National Rail Enquiries, they do not have wifi access

From May 2014, First TPE are reintroducing their Newcastle-Liverpool Lime Street service, whilst the current Newcastle-Manchester Airport services are being reduced, so will only run from York-Manchester Airport.

Also, new Class 350 trains are in the pipeline as the current Class 185s are often overcrowded.

Interesting, the 350s are supposed to be going on the wcml too once that is fully electrified. So the trains already on there, will end up being displaced too.
I didnt realise they could run off diesel though, so they cant be going on the 'via York' routes.

With the 185s being displaced, I wonder if this means the end of some of the older stuff like the 158's or if Northern end up getting some to get rid of the pacers?

RE: First TransPennine Express
The 350s are only for the WCML runs, the 185s used on those wokings at present are the ones being freeed to work the new Liverpool-Newcastle runs.

RE: First TransPennine Express
I believe there are plans for 350s to work the Newcastle-Liverpool runs too, as 185s are planned to be going on York-Blackpools, possibly with those extended to Scarborough.

I regularly use the TPE, and I don't mind the 185s at all. It's a waste of time trying to use it between Manchester and York on a morning or evening though. Jam packed without fail.

Quote:Tomorrow morning, we're running a special charter train that will attempt to set a record time with a non-stop run from Glasgow to Manchester in under three hours. The train, which leaves Manchester Oxford Road to Edinburgh and Glasgow, is in support of a team of First TransPennine Express adventurers who are taking part in the annual Three Peaks challenge to raise money for the Railway Children.

A TransPennine Express Class 185 operating this morning's 08:48 SCA - LIV service crashed into a car on a level crossing near Malton. Unfortunately, the driver of the car was killed. My prayers go out to him and his family.

It's simply because the new service jumps straight from Huddersfield to Manchester Victoria, completely missing out Piccadilly. I think I'm right in saying that this will be TPE's only service that doesn't stop at Piccadilly.

It's also the first TPE service to serve Victoria - something all TPE services to the North East will be doing once the Northern Hub project is completed.

After a quick neb, there are also fewer stops between Liverpool and Manchester too.
