Yeah, with the paths of the Newcastle and Middlesbrough services swapping over so that they no longer interwork (allowing 802s to be on Newcastle and 68s to be on Middlesbrough) there just isn't enough slack in the timetable for the extension to Saltburn to be included, it would require an extra unit which wouldn't be seen as economically viable. The TPE won't impact the northern service as it's scheduled to run to Redcar Central Down Loop every hour to get it out of the way

Assuming this is staying as it is, there's very little in the way of play on the platforms there.

Headway is minimal and there could be knock on effects, particularly with the way the loop works at Redcar.

Looking at the example below. 2D40 only needs to be running a few mins late, for the knock-on to hit 1P73.

1P73 arrives on P2 at Redcar when 2D35 is expected at P1. There will then be two trains following each other all the way to Eaglescliffe and 2D42 needing to find a platform.

I get the extra resource needed to extend to Saltburn, but surely they will have known that at the time it was first mooted?

There's been at least one unliveried set kicking around in service over the weekend.

Saw it in passing and there's a few photos appeared on twitter.

You could get a 185 or you could get an 802.

Until the mid 2000s (I think that's when they stopped) you could have had a 158 with seats that swallowed you up, all the way from Sunderland.

I remember getting one to Sunderland when they were building the metro extension and having to alight at St Peters instead of Sunderland before it returned to Manchester via Newcastle.

There also used to be one Saturday AM working of a TPX 158 up the Durham Coast line.
