Just reading that TPX are loosing 9 sets to Chiltern.

Despite this, Patrick Mcloughlin reckons no seats will be lost.

Done a bit of digging and it appears there has been a slight change of plan.

You've got to feel sorry for some passengers travelling between Manchester and Blackpool...

"From May, some services between Manchester Airport and Blackpool North will be operated by four-car Class 156s, as opposed to three-car Class 185s. These will be branded as Northern Rail but will be operated by FTPE staff".

That's a downgrade and a half!

In terms of quality of stock, speed and even comfort to an extent maybe so but a 4 car 156 will provide a lot more bums on seats at the end of the day than a 3 car 185. Sadly there is not just enough stock for TPE to operate this service using 6 car 185's so leasing them from Northern is the way forward for the time being.

Of course to cover, Northern will receive more 319's than planned which will help release the 156's to TPE but I like how the DfT like to ramp this up as "good news" although to be fair, they have came up with a decent solution to this mess that has developed with the 170's heading South!

The article I have referred to in the JH thread, also mentions that for a limited period, there will be a direct TPX to Blackpool, from the NE - forced by engineering works in the Liverpool area.

I will try and upload a photo, which specifies specific times/dates.

Pity they're not being diverted through the Calder Valley straight to Preston! Would be rather good in terms of rare TPE track if it was.

(AFAIK there's a few TPE services per day that use the Calder Valley, mostly being overnight/very early morning Manchester - York/Newcastle services, but my point being daytime. Also TPE don't touch at all Hall Royd Jn to Farington Curve Jn via Blackburn).

When I first saw Alex Nelson mention it in his article, I thought there may have been a diversion or two away from normal routes.
Looking on the link above, it looks like they're just extending the route to Blackpool, from Manchester.

It's the same route through to Manchester Victoria (York - Leeds - Huddersfield - Manchester) but seemingly the combination of their other routes too. From Man Vic they serve Bolton, Preston and Wigan.

Essentially the Calder Valley runs to the north and can go straight to Preston via Blackburn - this would be pretty rare track for a TPE!

Due to the closure of the WCML between Lockerbie and Carstairs, FTPE are running a skeleton service beyond Newcastle Central to Edinburgh Waverley for passengers from Manchester to Edinburgh.

There being run by 185s running non stop from Newcastle to Edinburgh. Due to pathing constraints, Northallerton, Darlington and Durham are omitted from the 1359 service

FTPE are starting to apply new "TransPennine Express" branding to the side of their trains. This is just the "newer" FTPE logo without the First logo.

I presume this is because of the Keolis "i" in the logo, where Keolis won't own any of First Trans Pennine Express Limited.

I agree. The new livery looks really smart.
