Anyone got any info/opinions/conspiracy theories regarding a full branding change for GNE? The new app has a light blue icon and now we're getting light blue lanyards, wonder if this is the start of a move away from the red for all other aspects, including the unbranded buses? Although it would seem to be a little backwards...

I like that promotional brand, will it just stay at Riverside or will it transfer around the NE?

Wonder what service(s) the demo is going on?

I think it looks ugly personally myself. Turns out my suspicions of it being a Yutong was correct then, my second guess was a MCV Evolution.

Had a ride on it when it was at First York depot and with this being the electric version, it is very quiet, YouTube video link: https://youtu.be/ki-yQmAFCXw

I don't mind a quiet bus. From the video it looks like a merc-streetlite crossover. Maybe not a fan of non-civic seating, but have to wait and see!

If I remember correctly, the seats ain't great but mercifully not as bad as the ones in the diesel version, I think this only has around 38 seats, so journeys on the X66 could be rather busy if you are travelling on this.

To some extents, I don't like quiet buses, I can't seem to get away with the stop, start equipment on the recently delivered Arriva Sapphire StreetLite's at Darlington, even after about two months of having them on a regular basis. In terms of noise from passengers, I do like a quiet bus though.

Haven't done many miles on the 21 since the hybrids were cascaded, but I know which vehicles I prefer.
The on/off of the hybrids did my head in. Mid-conversation, engine cuts out, everyone can now suddenly hear.

Just be like Stanley's Elvis. He yells down his phone to his mates. His phone often starts ringing mid conversation to himself. No stuffs given.

I'm passive about quiet and loud buses. Quiet buses mean things like the ol' 6014 don't cause earthquakes down every road they travel, but do pull on the enthusiast side of me.

(05 Apr 2018, 5:57 pm)busmanT 5390 normally for Quaylink

Demo X66

Shouldn't be allocated to Quaylink - at least not on paper - as this bus has an older Next Stop Announcement unit compared to the Quaylink buses and 5389 and 8328  (which were chosen as the two spares for Quaylink in fleet livery, in addition to branded Versa 8335).

Due to the compatibility issues with the hardware, the media is only programmed on 5390 for service 58 (for which it is intended to be the spare vehicle for).

Do think the bus chosen ought to have been 5389 rather than 5390, as the livery aims to promote the places around Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside as part of this event... A bus going round the Leam doesn't really achieve that.

(02 Apr 2018, 7:52 pm)Ianthegoon Are all three of the loan /demonstrator vehicles 9083, 9084 and 9085 still active with Go NorthEast, and are they normally allocated to specific boards?

(02 Apr 2018, 8:04 pm)Ds1197 9083 is allocated to the 309/310
9084 is allocated to the 67/69

Well, that's sorted 9083 and 9084.  Thanks!   Smile

What about 9085 - is that still on GNE's books?  I've spent some time on the X21 route with no sign of it, but I might just have been unlucky?

Thanks - I suspected that was the case, and I suspect that, now it's been highlighted, the fleet list will get tweaked in the very near future!

Will the demo be out on the X66 on the Sunday, just that's the only full day I have spare with in the next 10 days as my 2 other days off involve me going to Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.
